Car Service advice

Hello people

I don't know much about cars.  Mine is close to its 18,000 mile service.  However, due to my local dealership being 35 miles away and me being rather busy, I'm not going to be able to get it there for a couple of weeks, getting it closer to 19,000.  Will this make me be in trouble with the men in the garage?

So its presumably a fairly new car, presumably under warranty? 

You need to check with the dealer really. They usually let at least a couple of hundred miles grace before getting uppity but 1000 might be pushing it. You don't want to give them an excuse not to pay out on any warranty claims.

It's not going to the fiat garage though, getting an independent garage to do it as the fiat garage will rip you off, unless you already paid for the services when you bought the car?

Thanks both.  Booked it in for two weeks time.  Will be nearer 19k than 18 but I'm hoping to keep it as low as possible - I drive 80 miles a day round trip for work so it really tots up.  Tans - I'm going with the Fiat dealer - to my eternal shame.  225 quid all in.

Nope,  you should be able to use any VAT registered garage as long as they carry out the service to manufacturers specifications using genuine parts.

Got my car serviced the weekend...£400 later - 2 new tyres, brake pads and tracking and service and the car is only 2 years old - bloomin pot holes in swindon throwing out the tracking and screwing the tyres

Anyone know what a caliper kit is - I have been charged £40+ for this, didn't reaslsie until I got home and looked through all the paperwork

It's too cheap to be a whole new caliper.

Most likely just a few O rings and new caliper bolts.

if they need replacing after 2 years it's a fault not w&t

They probably class it as consumables so not covered by warranty.

Definitely consumables, as Ralphy said.

Any decent mechanic will always replace caliper bolts once they've been removed. They're only designed to be tightened once.

Replacing the O rings is probably a bit overkill, but at least you know they've done a thorough job.

£400 for a service plus that amount of extra work is pretty good value i'd say
