Does anybody know anything about this?
I keep stumbling across it as a way of making money online but nobody seems to say how it works.
Anybody? Barry?

You make a website that links to other websites that sell particular items. That website then pays you a commission for generating that sale. E.g. you make a website about books about creationism ( ). You write few blogs/articles about these books and provide links to the books on Amazon. Someone reads your website, clicks the link through to Amazon and buys the book. Amazon then pay you some money. It takes a lot of work and the website needs a very high amount of traffic and click-throughs for you to just make a small amount of money.

It's fairtly basic isn't it. You join an affiliate scheme with a retail, they provide a way of tracking people you direct to their web site and give you % back of any purchases made. There are of course cashback sites such as www.quidco.com that individuals like you and I can sign up to. They'll pay you their affiliate cashback in return for an annual membership fee. Quidco only takes this fee if you earn at least that much in affiliate cashback , so there is zero risk. I guess this is more "saving you money on purchases" rather than "earning you free money".

So basically, as I suspected, those claiming that huge sums of money can be made are full of shit?

I gues it can be done. But you'd need to redirect a lot of people to a lot of sites. Out of reach for us mortals I fear. Quidco is good if you do a lot of online shopping though, especially for big purchases (well maybe not for people who live in Thailand). I mean, its free money but I only made around £20-£30 last year. But better in my bank than the retailers.

That's my little sister's site, I had to get her site indexed and decided to give her some backlinks as well. Hence my sig and the forum footer. EDIT: For the record Affiliate Marketing is essentially selling for commissions or payment based on lead generation. For instance, like Sam says if you go to Amazon, eBay or any number of sites like that through my link I would get a percentage of what you spend. Then with Lead Gen, you can get paid $3-$8 for getting someone to create a free profile on a dating site. You have $0.60-$1.50 payouts for leaving an email address for ringtones, free gift cards and various other free things like nappy vouchers. There's a million offers and a million terms under which payment is triggered. Then you can also get someone to request further info from a bank or solicitor and get $150-$250 depending on offer, required demographic and information required. I've simplified it somewhat, but there's so many different angles with AM that you can't summarise it all quickly, but, contrary to what some think, people do make fucking huge amounts of money, I mean jaw dropping sums. Harrison Gevirtz, I think he's only 18 now and is partners in a new network, with Ryan Eagle, 21, called Eagle Web Assets. When Gevirtz was 16 he had a Black Amex and was doing around $1m a year. At the other end of the scale you have Jeremy Schoemaker doing $1m a month and Mike Hill does over $20m PA...

That stuff you sent was great Bazza. It all still seems a bit to good to be true, but then I guess I'll just have to find out for myself. If I become mega-rich, I'll buy you a Ferrari for putting me on the path of enlightenment.

I've had to concentrate on the bread and butter stuff of late, along with just a hint of laziness. Barry has sent me some good shit which makes it all make sense and I've been doing a bit of reading.
I've learned quite a bit recently though because I am currently working on a contract which is me writing for somebody else's campaign's. I've also been teaching myself wordpress and stuff.
Once I have a bit more financial flexibility, hopefully the start of next month, then I'll devote more time to it.

Trying to get to grips with pre-selling.
Still as a writer, not a marketer myself. Anybody have any tips on pre-selling? (Barry?)
Did you give it a go yourself Samdy?

I'm still learning.
I'm now writing for a PPC campaign management company and writing landing pages for an affiliate marketer. Think it'll be a while yet before I'm making money myself directly from my own campaigns, but once I master pre-selling directly I should be able to sell my copy for some decent money.
