Really a happy bunny tonight.

Start of the football season tomorrow, and because I haven't made it to any pre-season games I haven't seen Rose, Prutton, Ball, Caddis or Dossevi kick a ball yet. How often can you hope to see 5 new players in the same match, who all come with the real expectation of improving the team?

I'm more nervous about the reaction if we haven't been promoted by 5pm on Saturday.  It'll take time folks, be patient.

We'll need Caddis in and settled ahead of Manks and a top notch centre half pretty sharply.  We might be grumbling about defensive frailties of Rose and a little surprised that Dossevi isn't actually quite the real deal.

On the other hand, we'll take time to realise that the Big V really is better than most of us have credited so far, that Charlie is the real deal and that the skinny kid Ball is possibly the most exciting footballer we've seen in many, many years.

Somewhere between 5th and 8th will have been another mighty fine season.

Whilst I'm full of optimism it has to be said the reality is that no two seasons are the same and we'll do well to match last year!

Either way titles aren't won or lost in a day.

By no means am I expecting us to be up by Christmas (tm Pox) but just to see the type of players we've got in, the competition for places. Just everything at the moment around the club is positive and I farkin love it.

For some reason I don't think we'll win tomorrow, I've got a feeling it could be a bit like the Sheff Wed season opening home game many years ago when we let in 3 before clawing back 2.

At the end of the day, (has that made the annoying phrase thread yet?) the opening game means diddly, that year we got to the playoffs and Wednesday finished no-where. (if my memory serves me right!)

I think we'll have a strong campaign and maybe we could nudge automatic.

I've not been this excited for the start of a season ever. I'm quite surprised at that as well, because after Wemberlee, I wondered whether I'd be up for this season straight away. I think our brilliance at the WC strengthened my love for STFC and showed me there's only one team in this country I give a fuck about.

I was thinking about this yesterday Barry and in my upteen years of supporting the Town I can't actually think of a time when I was looking forward to the new season with quite this much anticipation.

I've been excited about what's going on at the club ever since Day 1 that Fitton & Co took over. But with everything that had to be done off the pitch in terms of dealing with the CVA and the labyrinthine financial issues left behind by the old regime it was always going to be a while before things started to really move forward on the pitch. This is now happening with what must be a serious amount of money having been invested in players over the last 12 months. Not so much in terms of transfer fees (although six figure fees for the three Celtic boys/bhoys is not to be sniffed at) but in terms of wages. The likes of Douglas, Prutton etc will  not have come cheaply and we've started to see the results of that on the field. Long may it continue. I know a ball's not been kicked yet this season but I just can't see us not improving on last seaon.

Happy days. It's been a long time coming Cool

You can join me at Burton Albion today, about to set off. In my own way I share your enthusiasm for the new season.

I thought a struggle to reach the playoffs might be on the cards. I didn't think we would be totally hopeless and finish bottom of the league to a team deducted 10 points.
