Everyone going on about how we will miss his experience should maybe have a closer look at how many games he has played compared to our current defenders. he has played around just 20 games more than kev amankawaah and has actually played less game than rose who we bought in. Dave when you get a min maybe you could put exact games up

Cuthbert has nearly 100 league games and has been a captain since he was growing up and captained all teams he played for at international level.
Rose has played nearly 300 games.

I personally think Cuthbert can step up to the leadership side of things. The problem may come if he is concentrating on other people's games more than his own. At the moment we're all second guessing what will happen. We have lost that experience and leadership at centre back but it could be replaced already within the squad. Who's have honestly thought a non league striker could be as prolific as Simon Cox or Billy Paynter would be the division's second top scorer? McGovern upping his game, Amankwaah being good despite apparently being the worst player ever on Swansea's books? That's why, although I would prefer to have a contingency, I am not panicked by our options at the moment. I guess at a very worst case scenario we sign nobody, realise early on what will/won't work and grab someone(s) on loan to help things out. If we get Caddis he has experience of captaining a team too, here's a good example. click here for article

Inexperience in the central pairing was the issue.
If Cuthbert can lead the line then great!

Why is it a issue? The defence work as a unit

Because exxperienced players generally know where to be and what to do in a variety of situations because they have done it all before. Hence why they are experienced.
I've not seen Rose play, and have no idea if Amankwha or Cuthbert can talk someone through a game when things get difficult.
It could all work out brilliantly. Who knows. I do know that Greer was up to the job, but that's history so we move on.

I think quite a few of us are still licking our wounds because we know these were Greer's merits and we're used to him taking up the mantle.

Yes, but if you (hypothetically) have one leader and they are a wing-back, it is very difficult to communicate with the whole defensive line. Having a leader at CB keeps the central pairing strong and makes it easier to have leadership of the defence as a whole.

Can't everyone just get over it already?
Greer has gone. Fitton and Wilson seem ok with the centre backs we've got and if they aren't they'll get someone else in.
What exactly is the problem?

You must have read the other thread jonny, its clear that the problem is Greer's leaving will act as the catalyst for the now inevitable apocalypse. We're all going to die horribly.
