We've all seen the incredibly funny 'Danger - this sign has sharp edges' but my personal bugbear is the one on the approaches to Swindon that says something like:

'For Town Centre shopping, following Town Centre'

in about four foot high letters.

Any others?

When the Motorway Matrix ones display "Fog"

Half the time there isn't any, and when there is you can generally see it by it's very nature.

God alone knows.  Close to Elland Road, we took a wrong turn.  I think in the direction of Huddersfield.

the 'slow children' signs

If there are slow children on the road they deserve to be run over, survival of the fittest

I dont know if theyre national or just a local campaign but around here (Suffolk), they've put up signs saying '20's plenty'. I dont even think theyre bonefide government signs, they definitely arent official as they've got a dodgy font. Anyway, my problem with them is that a). Theyre in rediculous areas, where doing anything less than 30 would cause awful congestion b). and more annoyingly, I find them very sanctimonious by virtue of the fact that some cunt has taken it upon himself to erect them.

'Twenty's Plenty' signs have been commonplace in the west of Scotland for years.  They're everywhere.  There's a really patrician tone to road signage up there.  Gantry signs above the M8 through Glasgow are almost permanently set to 'Speeding Kills' and (my personal favourite) 'Be a Courteous Driver.'  Next time I'm up there, I'm fully expecting to see 'Did You Remember to Blow Your Nose Before You Left the House, Dear?'  All a bit over the top.

The worst is "Tiredness Kills" a mile before every service station, That's not the only thing that does, £20 for a couple of sandwiches and drinks, doesn't do much for the blood pressure.

not strictly on topic, but food items that get labelled "may contain nuts" when said item is a bag of nuts.

On Swindon Road in Stratton, there's a sign for the Equity Trade Centre which just says "etc.". I find that amusing.

A funny one from a few years back was on the m4 approaching membury services, a big sign with the words, hungry? Thirsty? And underneath some painted, need a shit? Smiley
