What happened with free kicks "Before Beckam"[B.B.]When I was a lad and Burnley won the First Division they had some of the most inventive free kicks in the league which payed off regularly.Nowadays we rarely see any variation at all, everyone thinks they are Beckam with the inevitable result of a minuscule amount being scored.Do any of you foul mouthed lot agree with me or is it just the ramblings of an "old git".NICE TO BE BACK!

Thank you D.R.S.My case is rested.Yes I did watch that game C.S. and I may be wrong but I think they are the only ones scored so far.Admitted they do look good when they go in,but my point is most do not and it is a waste of having an advantage.

I loved that video!! I agree with ghost of noble's point. On a similar subject our newest addition can apparently take a mean free kick, lets hope he finds a bit more accuracy than Sheehan did.

Where's Ernie Hunt's goal DRS ?  (the donkey flick from Willie Carr - I think, followed by a volley ?)

Some great goals in that video, and I agree with GON to some extent. Although 'clever' free kick routines also go wrong much more often than they go right!

I agree R4E but I bet percentage wise they are more successful.Do you think we should become anoraks and study a game or two?On a similar vein I also believe players quite often take shots on goal when it would be a better option to play the simple ball to a team mate who would have an easier chance of scoring.Who was it said---"Its a simple game?"---probably nobody but I think its true.

The balls nowadays are a joke. The vast majority of free kicks sail over the bar, not even close.

Early 90's the likes of Koeman, Zola and Hagi would hit the target almost every time.

Maybe they are more successful - it'd be a tough one to test though since, as you say, the 'clever' free kicks are much less common. McDermott's against City was a good'un though!

Might aswell give Rose a ball and see what he can muster, his freekick video does look mean to be fair to the lad.
