Loan Players

Hate loan players. Feels like your cheering a somebody elses players. Wouldnt it be better to stick with Swindon through and through and know where you are. Easton. Timlin, Thompson, Pericard, O'Brien, Bodin. Millwall beat us with a settled team that had been together a couple of seasons. what do ya reckon ?

I think it's very naive, and without good use of the loan system we would have got where near challenging for promotion.

You mention Millwall, but two of their better players at Wembley, Batt and Trotter, were on loan so not sure what point your making about them.

Loan players are fine as long as there aren't too many, 2 or 3 is usually fine but we have had our fair share of crap ones, Admittedly we have good ones this season well actually we did have Hutchinson & Odabeyi.

Over the past few years we've had some awful ones, Patrick Collins & Trevor Benjamin spring to mind but we've also had the likes of Slabber so it doesn't always work out, I feel it's better to have a squad that consists of permanent players with 2 maybe 3 loans added, Because if we keep on having 5 loans then it's very hard to replace them when they leave hence Ferry, Sheehan, Ward, Darby etc.

There's nothing wrong with using the loan system at all, Sometimes it works out great but sometimes it doesn't, What if we brought in quite a few loan players next season and they didn't work out like they did this season? It could fuck up our season.

Clearly a cunt...we've just signed off a CVA, get gates of 8,000 when doing well, and correctly don't want to revisit going bust....which means a smallish squad of our own players, supplemented by loan players. Probably not ideal....but that's how it is.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'perhaps the players we have might have shown some bollocks' when you consider we were only one game away from The Championship. Ward and Ferry worked their bollocks off every game for this club. Sheehan and Darby were hardly bad recruitments either.

I agree you need a solid foundation of permanent players, but ignoring the loan system altogether would be madness. It's the way clubs in the lower leagues operate these days.

Yeah, Ferry, Ward, Sheehan, Darby none of them worked their fucking nuts off to get us where we got to. I was especially appalled at Ward's goal which equalised the tie at Charlton away, then the sight of an 18-year old lad stepping forward in front of umpty-thousand baying Charlton fans to slot home his penalty cool as you like. And as for Darby stepping up to take the winning pen because no-one else wanted to, what a complete toerag!

If some of the players we had on pretty good permanent deals over the past 5 years had "shown some bollocks" the way our loan players have this season, we might not have been relegated to League 2 and might already be in the Championship.

i think to start off the season only 2 loans would be enough i think that with players that have left since january like aljofree and peacock and also the players who have left this summer like paynter we may have enough cash to bring in 4-5 permanent players.

i would love to see ward back here for one more season i think its more likely to happen than most people think. im not so sure about ferry though as people here say that the scottish prem is the equivilent of our league then i can see him getting in the celtic team next season.

WE have to replace Ward, Ferry, Sheehan, Paynter, Darby, Nouble, Paynter - unless any come back. We also may lose Timlin and/or Easton. Cant see 2 loans being enough, even if the squad if reduced in size.

I think the only chance we had of seeing Ward again was gone after losing at Wembley, If Bolton do loan him out again there will surely be some Championship clubs after him now. And Bolton will presumably send him to one of those to get higher league experience.

It would be almost impossible to sign players of the calibre of Ward, Darby, Ferry on a permanent basis, and we don't want a squad of players like Timlin, Thompson and O'Brien now do we? No offence to them, but they're not good enough in my opinion.

A good post apart from the bottom bit are you trying to say that Darby made more impact than Sheehan as that would be a pretty strange statement.

OK, Ferry & Ward made a big difference, Sheehan & Darby added depth/cover to the squad.

My point being, without the loan players this season we probably wouldn't have made the play offs.

Agree fully with this, if anything this season proved the value of loan players and how important they could be if we are going to have another promotion charge next season.
