Funnily enough my it was my sons (primary) school parent evening last night. Looked through some of his work before and the were sort of pink straight lines on some bits of his maths. The Mrs (a teacher) explained these were "think marks", i.e. the answer was wrong and required more thought. At least that's what the Mrs said - no idea if this is a scool specific term..

It is exactly this namby pamby kind of "softening" of education that pisses me off. If its wrong just put a cross next to it. It makes chuff all difference if its a cross or a "think mark". Its the same thing, and kids are so thick they don't know this.

FFS. Teachers have no choice, its those pen pushers down at city hall that are responsible.

We recently had a meeting and in a five second conversation we agreed to continue to mark in red.  It makes no difference what colour you mark in, if the work is good, the comments will be positive, if not, then they wont.  And as for homework not being marked, that's shocking and the school should be doing something about it (if they know, of course).

I've brought this up twice with the school, My daughter is in year eight and has said rather than check their homework some teachers just tell them to put it their books for reference. So if it's not checked the kids will be referring to something that could be wrong or not up to standard . We sign our daughters journal to say she has done or is doing her homework, perhaps the teachers should also be signing the journal to say they have checked the homework is correct.

If the teacher is setting the homework, the teacher should mark it, otherwise your daughter could be quoting from any old rubbish from the internet (not that I'm suggesting you would just allow your daughter to complete all the homework using copy and paste).  We have a marking policy that no book should go more than two weeks without being marked (incl. homework), I try to do every week (don't always manage it), and we recently had our marking checked by senior management.  Not sure I'd bother doing homework if I knew no-one was marking it.

In days gone by i used to fry the bacon then keep the bacon fat(when hardened)to use as dripping.
