I'm always quite skeptical bout the whole Big Brother is watching you stuff but something strange happened yesterday which may just be a coincidence but strange none the less.
Someone from work brought in "Cards against humanity" for us to play on out lunch. Until that moment i was not aware of the existence of this game. No one mentioned on any social media platform that we are playing this game so what freaked me out is that just a few hours later an Amazon ad on my Facebook pops up saying that they have an offer on the game and i should buy it. ..... . . . Aliens
Part of the permissions of the mobile app is it gets access to your microphone and can hear what you are saying and listening to. Apparently there's been instances of people listening to foreign radio overnight and getting foreign ads in the morning https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/facebook-using-people-s-phones-to-listen-in-on-what-they-re-saying-claims-professor-a7057526.html%3Famp?client=safari

Nah the two that prompted me to become mildly annoyed are def just being gullible twats. Which doesn't mean I'm not being whoooshed elsewhere, I usually am

Estate agents. Since when did making an offer constitute starting an auction with all interested parties?
Made an offer that was deemed acceptable, next thing we know we're called back saying 2 more parties have now offered in excess of ours and the property sold for £5k over the asking price.
I understand that it's in the best interests of the agents and the vendor, but it feels slightly wrong to be the only person to put in an offer and then to find you're in a fucking auction with people who hadn't made offers. Feels very underhand to me.

Not defending it but it's agents job to act in best interests of their client and that includes informing others who have shown an interest that an offer has been made. Unlike when we bought our first place where the agent seemed to eventually be working for us to the detriment of their own client to get the sale through! I suspect that you wouldn't complain if boot was on other foot? The majority tend to be clueless twats admittedly though!

Baffles me that in such a sellers' market, people still use traditional agents.

Just seems a touch underhanded to turn a sale into an auction and share other's offers with other potential buyers. Baffles me that in such a sellers' market, people still use traditional agents.
I wish I didn't have to, but in this instance I have next to no choice.

I'd wager that there is no auction and the agent is bullshitting to up the price (and their commission).

Indeed. Our flat went up for sale on Friday, a viewer Saturday, sold on Monday. Ironically to my parents neighbour who are investing. Could have miss out the Middle man (or woman in this case)

When we sold, it was a set fee not related to price. No doubt some do it that way.

Probably unrealistic for most to miss out an agent of sorts, but with 99% of house viewing and finding online, online agents at set fees way below high street rates seem the smart move.

I think the thing is people want the comfort of knowing an 'expert' is acting for them, its the same as homebuyers surveys which are essentially pointless and not worth the paper they are written on but people still seek them for peace of mind! I sold a house last year, as it was 300 miles away from where I live we used a local agent, they were fine acted in my best interest and charged a set fee - all was fine and dandy! Also about to do another off market transaction but need to agree a value, will get 3 local agents to value and then average it, so they do serve a purpose. 99% of viewing on line? - but who walks around telling the buyer to appreciate the patina and lofty aspect!
