You should have probably considered that before booking a holiday to such an unstable part of the world

What a pointless comment. Up until October last year, people have been holidaying there without any issue.  Obviously I wouldn't have booked to go there if the incidents that have happened in the last few months had already occurred!

Jo, surely you have already answered your own question? If there is no way you want to go there then you should do something now. If you wait until July to get a full refund you might not get in anywhere else, if they lift the restrictions do you still fancy going?

There have been terrorist issues there for over 10 years?

The government raised the threat level for Egypt to high in summer of last year. If people choose to ignore this advise then that's their decision, but they should accept the risks involved in that decision. Especially given how holiday resorts are a known favoured terrorist target

I'd still go, I imagine it's a cheaper holiday now, and it's unlikely you'll come to any harm

I imagine that statistically the most dangerous thing you'd do all holiday is drive to the airport, but if the perceived threat is significant enough to make the holiday not enjoyable for you then you're probably best off cancelling.

In 'fairness' to Easyjet, I imagine their insurance is based entirely on government travel advice, so if they refund people ahead of time they'll lose out significantly.

I'm booked to go to Sharm el Sheikh in May. I knew the risks when I booked. My flights are with Thomas Cook which are also currently suspended until March. If they're flying again by May then I fully intend to still travel to Egypt.

I'm tempted to cancel and re-book my room, the rate has dropped by £200 for the fortnight.

We have. My grumble was that Easyjet wouldn't waive the admin fees to change our flights to elsewhere given the situation.  I didn't want a refund, so fundamentally they're not losing anything.  In fact they've gained, because the flights we've changed to are slightly more expensive.

What is the attraction? Unless there are places you want to visit I'd imagine it's the same sand/sun holiday that can be had in the med.

If you're still happy to go, I would (assuming you didn't pay a large deposit you'll lose).  I've just looked and the hotel we were going to has only dropped by £40.

$$$ - a decent 4* all-inclusive there is significantly cheaper than Europe.

As above.  I've just had to pay £1,000 more for a 4* all inclusive with similar facilities in Rhodes.
