I'm gonig to be buying a new laptop for work but it needs to be encrypted - not for porn but just sensitive data. Does anyone know anything about this? I don't want to encrypt each file or folder - basically the whole PC and the option to encrypt outgoing e mail attachments. So, in effect if I get pissed and leave the laptop somewhere its useless to anyone else.

Won't your employer provide the software?

We have McAfee Endpoint Encryption at work. It just gives you an extra login screen when your computer starts up.

You could use TrueCrypt, it's free.

I just finished a project rolling out TrueCrypt to the 200 odd laptop users this company has... Great bit of software

For extra security, password protect booting and the bios.

Go into your bios set-up on start-up, normally del or f2 i believe, then you can set up those passwords in there.

How?
When you do system encryption with truecrypt, you get forced to create a pre-boot password
