Seems slightly as odds with Fittons desire to bring the youth through our ranks, but I assume the lad wanted to go so there wasnt much point in trying to stop him.
If we get some more loan players in from liverpools reserves I'm sure that will help sweeten the deal from our point of view.

It's better to agree a deal for our youngsters rather than lose them and get fuck all from a tribunal. Plus building a relationship with a big club like Liverpool can only be a positive, and if we go up it should increase the chances of us getting Darby on loan for next season which could be massive.

I think the philosophy is more "One to play, one to sell", so we bring some through and develop them ourselves, others are developed to a certain point before being sold to help fund the whole kaboodle

Also, as mentioned in the article, it is very much in the interests of the player to go to somewhere like Liverpool since he is a goalkeeper, and will receive more specialist coaching there.

Keepers take a long time to develop, and thus a long time before they become worth selling. So it's logical to sell him to Liverpool.
Henshall on the other hand.. it would be a silly move on his part if he jumped ship to an EPL team now. If he keeps developing at this rate then he'll be pushing for our first team in a year or two..

Good points....also it's very difficult to recognise goalkeepers of talent at a young age. Take Martin New....back in the late 70's he was turning out for Swindon Schools and England Schools, had a chance to sign for Town but preferred Arsenal, signing as a 17 year old. By the age of 20 he was out the door, had a half a season at Mansfield then Barnsley, and was out the game by 21.
