Wow, got to feel for the die hard Darlo supporters even if they seem a little thin on the ground. They must rattle around in that stadium. It least the food kiosk queue would be short though.

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Staunton as he was in the frame to replace MM before we got in DW.

I do agree that we dodged a bullet with Staunton. I would also say though, that no one, but no one could have kept Darlington in the Football League.

That is very true, it was pretty much a lost cause from before the season started.

Before he was on the nationals, Mark Clemmit worked quite hard to try and get people to go to Darlington matches and when they got a truly awful turn out near to the end of last season despite being close to the Play-Offs, I think old Clemmit gave up on them there and then and made a remark along those lines.

I don't see much of a future for them.

Think our lowest ever crowd was against Darlo.

1680 +me....it's certainly our lowest crowd in recentish years, but I believe we once had lower v Torquay, but can't be arsed to look.

83/84  the dark before the dawn. Ben Squeamish as manager, we could boast Rowland, Mayes, Quinn and Garry Nelson up front although AR turned out a bit in defence,  but the midfield was shite with the execrable Gary (Gladys) Emmanuel, although Dave Hockaday was steady before dropping back and finding his true position.

I loved it back then....football was so unsexy.  The likes of Chelsea used to get a regular 12/13 000...our visit to Chester got 880.

Was there as well Reg...seem to remember Emmanuel having one decent game at Ashton Gate v City,in the Days when City were struggling in the old fourth.

I missed that game...being in France at the time. However I think there's a vid of it on the Banyard site.  I suppose Emmanuel was fit and did his best, but he was just very modest, a bit like a left footed, cross between Matt Hewlett and Booby Howe.

Someone like Gareth Whalley is more deserving of opprobrium, but got away with it by always being injured.
