Presumably because they feel he does a good job, which is far more important than the qualification. Plenty of people have died under the "care" of doctors with all the right bits of paper.

exactly.
if he was not up to the job, somebody would have got rid of him by now.players would have complained to the numerous bosses i'm sure, if they thought he wasn't treating them properly.

Conversely I would rather have a surgeon who had completed their training operating on me rather than someone who had leafed through "The Complete Idiots Guide to Cutting Bits Out Of People".

I made the comment that he is not qualified as a physio. Which implies that we could do better. Seeing as the changing room is beginning to look like Emergency Ward 10, I suggest that this would perhaps be a good place to spend some more of the club's money. Get an additional physio in (one with reputation and qualifications), if it works better then dear old Dick can clean the boots.

How would you know if you were being "treated properly" without being a physio yourself? Perhaps they are happy with a quick sponge down and a spray of deodorant every day for their hamstring strains.

so this doesn't have anything to do with the fact that the same XI have played so many matches in a row then? come on, don't blame the physio for that?!

the players would have been at pro clubs for years, and would have a pretty good idea on how to look after their bodies, how injuries heal etc, etc.
kids at clubs pick up information from day 1.
they will not be experts for sure, but they will have seen or experienced injuires in their time.if mackey didn't know what he was doing he would have been long gone

I believe he isn't qualified as a Physio, which is a bit different to being what we determine is a football club physio.  Basically, he wouldn't get a job at the NHS without some additional training and quals.  It's not that long ago that a club physio was just a sponge man, so it's probably more a case that a lot of professional clubs have a "gap" - when players get bad injuries it seems to be external advice that provides their rehabillitation plan.

Remember when Wise came in, how our players suddenly looked fitter because they had someone in concentrating on it.  Maybe it's worth a club having an all round physio/fitness expert who is effectively part of the coaching team.  Ultimately most football injuries are tears or strains, the sort that need time and bit of work rather than a knife or drugs, so I suppose most clubs just don;t see a business case for investing heavily.  Players probably go to extremes about their fitness depending on whether they want to play or not, and unqualified medical staff are just there to keep them going until the day they need to visit the Doc.
