500 in the town end? Thats not good in my eyes? How many season tickets did we have last year in that end? How many of these are new? Not an encouraging start is it in my eyes. We need to build on last season and get at elast 5000 in total.

Having 500 guaranteed each week in the Town End is better than having it almost empty. Hopefully will create a good atmosphere there.

From the OS:

Quote
After one-month of sale, Swindon Town have now sold over 1,200 Season Tickets ahead of the new 2010/11 season

Midnight saw the £199 Town End price come to a close with just over 416 supporters taking up the offer of football in either League One or the Coca-Cola Championship for less than £9 per game.

An encouraging 27% of all Season Ticket Holders for next season are NEW with Season Tickets now entering the second window of sale.

Just over 416? Why not say 417.

Suprised, thought we would easily sell 1000 at that price. Poor.

Perhaps the 417th is a midget?

It proves the point that most people would prefer the Town End to be full but they want somebody else to go in there while they sit in the better seats themselves. Until that end is redeveloped I dont think that is going to change much.

27% new ST holders out of 1,200 is over 300 new ST holders so its a pretty good start overall. If you dont want to sit in the Town End, there is still 6 weeks or so at the low prices so there isnt going to be a huge rush until the end of April with people still having to be careful with their cash.

Hmmm. I'm very unimpressed with 417 sold at £200.

Very worrying. The board must be thinking what more do they have to do?

It was a favourite mantra of Mark MacFlasher, that if you halved the price you wouldn't double the gate.

It would be interesting to see the sort of crowd generated, by a Mansfield type offer of pay what you want.

I wonder how many season tickets were sold in there before people moved out? These offers aside, I was a town end regular without the season ticket (mostly every game). I know others were too. It doesn't necessarily mean it won't be busy next season but I suppose it depends on how we're doing in the league (and what division we're in).

It proves the point that most people would prefer the Town End to be full but they want somebody else to go in there while they sit in the better seats themselves. Until that end is redeveloped I dont think that is going to change much.

Absolutely spot on.

People moaned that the pricing wrecked the atmosphere, that the town end should be cheaper and then the atmosphere would return. But now many have moved from the cheap seats they don't want to go back, which of course is their prerogative. But I think we just need to accept that things have changed.

The Board realised their 'mistake' but it's too late put it right. Perhaps we just need to hope the County Ground gets more atmospheric overall? It's gradually got better this season but being mindful we're pushing for promotion it's been largely flat. Actually, they just need to ban the first person who claps for the 'Oh when the Reds' or 'Wilson's Red & White Army' chants. No sooner do they get going it descends into frantic paced nonsense. May as well bring a fucking drum and a trumpet to orchestrate the fans (tongue firmly in cheek).

That probably seems like a bit of a rant but it's merely observation. I think the overall point is that the dynamic of the town end has changed and we need to get over this fact. I'm also going to have a good craic in there next season when we're playing in the Championship, regardless of how many or few will be in there.

Looking at this from a slightly different angle, which Si has already alluded to, perhaps the "problem" is not the fact that people aren't taking up the £200 offer. We have sold 417(?) in the TE so far, but perhaps people think the DRS and Arkells are good value for money and are going to sit there instead? 300 new season tickets is encouraging, and hopefully that number will rise around April time. Anybody who bought one this year would be slightly crazy if they decided not to renew, given the season we're having (unless it's for financial reasons).

I think this puts to bed the theory a load of people are priced out. I know times are hard and the they ain't great but 199 is about as cheap as it gets.

Yeah, but you have to appreciate that £199 is stll a lot of money for some people to find in one hit. Perhaps they haven't got any credit and are just about making ends meet.

Sure, it's under £9 for the TE over the season, but that assumes that you can afford to pay up front. I think those that can't will still come on a pay as you go basis and perhaps pick and choose their games.

Its impossible to measure how many of our fanbase are so skint they cant get their hands on £200 in a month in one way or another. Its not like theres a shortage of lads in the townend wearing designer clothes / replica shirts / whatever.

In all honesty I dont think its that many, as at that price you can look at it as an investment, you can miss half the games and still be up from matchday prices.

Basically I think money is an excuse to many, although there obviously are some who simply cant afford it.
