Maybe.

I'd be pissed off if he ended up at Rovers. Its bad when Rovers can offer higher wages than we can.

They cant. But our board are rightly trying to curb lower league players wages. These are still players that attract just 6,000 home fans for a game. You have to have a structure on how highly you value each player, and Paynter has to fit into that.

Actually seems a fair commentator, but I can see what you mean about the voice.

He sounds like he should be commentating on some horse racing instead. Extremely excitable.

No one player is bigger than the club and there is no way Paynter deserves to be the highest earner. If his agent is playing silly buggers then fuck him off and get a new one.

If true,Paynter can piss off if he thinks he's worth more than anyone else at the club.Fuck me!

Wilson has shown he can pick up the right players that fit in with our wage structure. Whilst I don't want us to lose Paynter, I'd prefer losing him to paying over the odds especially as I'm sure Wilson would find a replacement - arguably he already has in Pericard.

Only exception I'd make is for young players that could be worth big bucks in the near future (eg Austin, Ferry, Henshall). It could be argued it worth paying them a lot more on the basis we'll get more for them in a year or two.

You'd hope that common sense will prevail with Paynter as he's seen first hand what can happen when you get it wrong as when he left Port Vale it wasn't until he joined us (3 or 4 clubs later) that he found any semblance of form.

The thing is it's not the player it's the agent trying to get him a better deal.

Not many goals about tonight. Carlisle 1 up at Leeds in the windscreen wipers.

Yep and hopefully Paynter will show some common sense and ignore his agent as at the end of the day they don't have to do what their agent says.
