Right ho. I got a car the other week, a lovely masculine Ford KA. First two days of driving were fine, untill i came back home to park on tuesday night and the central locking failed. Now the car no longer locks properly, so if i want to leave it locked i need to lock it from the inside and clamber out the boot. Not very dignified for a man of my stature.

I've had a look on the internet and it appears a common problem with this car, so i'm not too concerned. However, matey boy at the garage can't look at it untill friday, which leaves me at the whim of the national rail should i want to get to work.

My question is, to the great and the good of the TEF, what can I do to get around this problem? Genuine answers only please, and no comments on the slight effeminency of the car.

Can you not lock the passenger door from the inside, get out the drivers door, the lock the drivers door manually?

Have you got secure parking at work?

Another option - you could remove the wheels and take them into work with you

or take the top off the distributor cap, and take the rotor arm off - achieves the same as the above and is a lot easier to carry around than a wheel.  although in this case, i think i'd also agree with singingiiiffy

This would be my suggestion. If it plays funny buggers when you try and lock it manually (i.e. tries to lock all the door locks), take the fuse for the central locking out, lock the passenger door from the inside and then lock the drivers door with the key from the outside.

I used to have a Street Ka once I liked it alot even though everyone called it an upholstered rollerskate! But the locking never broke?

Yes!! It was fun to start with, now its just annoying.

Sam, do you have any idea where fuses would be? I'm one of the least technical people around

the fuses are under the dasboard. Look below the steering wheel to the right and you will see a panel.Pull the panel out and the main fuse board is exposed.

The manual should tell you where the central locking fuse is. I would imagine it would be in the main fuse box under the bonnet (usually next to the battery) but I wouldn't know which number it is. The manual will tell you.
