The Fulham game really showed that for all the positives (tidy passing, strong in the tackle, compact shape) the team really lacks pace. A middle four of say jpm-ferry-jd-sheehan/ward is solid and can pass, but not super quick. Neither are Billy P or Austin.
I'd really like to see O'Brien or Macklin pushing for the first team, but think that anyone coming in during January is going to have a decent 100m time.

I think Wilson has gone down the traditional route of getting out of this division, strong minded players who will fight to win, not luxury players who disappear far too often in games.

I agree. We've got pace in the squad, but I'm not sure it's first team quality. |

Macklin has only just come back from injury as well.

I agree with you. We held our own against a Premiership team. The only reason we struggled to break them down was because they were very organised and had a good defense. |

I agree with iffy. Yes O'Brien is injured but we otherwise lack pace. I'm very happy with our starting 11, but it would be nice to have another option for when that doesn't work.

That is the thing, our starting 11 look solid and worthy of their place, and there are a few others on the fringes that are good enough, but we do lack strength in depth of any quality to really push those in possetion of the shirt, hopefully this will be addressed

I don't think the lack of pace in the first team is a problem as such, since we are picking up points and played well against Fulham. iffy does have a point though, it would be nice to have one or two good quality players in the squad who had some pace. I'm still hoping O'Brien can become one, but he'll need to stay injury-free for a while before that can happen. I also think Macklin needs to begin to push on this season and next to avoid ending up at Salisbury or Chippenham like the rest of them. He's still young so here's hoping he can do it.

Some of our best teams had next to zero pace in them. Proper pace is rare, especially in a decent player. I've not witnessed us out paced this season, not in a way that was effective and looked a real threat to us. Organisation is the rock that overcomes pace's scissors.

Someone nippy through the middle would have been a big help on saturday...the reason Greer plays so deep is to cope with pace of attacking opposition with pace.....he got caught out saturday but in the main weve coped....our defence has been outstanding this season...6th in the lge with two games in hand bears that out..Douglas helps out no end....but abit of pace up front would do us wonders...lets hope something materialises in the next few weeks.

Amankwaah is also fast.
Whenever Wilson has started Hutchinson we look slow up front.
Weve been unlucky with injuries with our pacy players. But unfortunately they will pick up more hamstring injuries, Macklin and O'Brien seem too fast for their own bodies!
