There is a Scalextric swapmeet at the Oasis tommorrow. Well worth a visit if you're in to Scalextric. Lots of bargains and some circuits to have a go on. More details here:

Its business - I started the event a few years back when I sold slot cars for a living and now my brother runs it and I help him out. Attendance wise its the biggest event of its kind in the UK and so makes a good profit.

Did you enjoy James May' toy story when he raced scalextric around the old brooklands circuit?

Still have mine from when I was a kid.Haven't used it in a while, but it may see some action soon and will have to invest in some new cars.....

<Nerd Alert>I take it this event is every year, and are they held in other locations?</Nerd Alert>

<Nerd Alert 2> I used to race RC cars nationally for far too many years, which are also fucking ace, but also fucking expensive</Nerd Alert 2>

I was there - my brother had a table at the swap meet and I went along for the day.

They used some very creative editing on the programme as the record attempt was a bit of a disaster mainly due to the heat warping the track (which was funny in itself as they were more concerned about it raining at the start).

The cars were being pushed along not after the start and they were stopping every 50 yards (or less). The bit where it crossed the road took about 30 seconds on TV, it actually took about 20 minutes - the traffic was backed up as far as you could see and the drivers were not happy.

When James May makes his motivation speech at the beginning of the day he was reading off some hand written notes on the floor next to him. About 30 minutes later when everybody had buggered off they were still lying there, until I picked them up and made off with them. Hoping I'll get a few quid for it on eBay.

I take it this event is every year, and are they held in other locations?

There is normally an event every month or so somewhere in the country. I wouldn't recommend any of them though unless you've got a beard and sandals. The Swindon event is different as its aimed at the dads and lads market and its the only one with circuits.

If anyone wants any Scalextric related advice let me know.
