You're not taxed or do not pay NI at the higher rates for the full £1, only the amounts over the bandings.

You get a personal allowance too

Don't be a cunting politician about this - we pay too much tax, end of...

Is that how it works? More likely the Government take 50% of the bonus from the banks, THEN tax the bankers 40% on the remainder that they get.

That's pretty much how I understood it. On any bonuses over £25k the banks themselves will have to pay 50% in taxes, the banker still gets the full amount and then pays standard taxes on it. So on a bonus of £50k a total of £45k will be paid in taxes, £25k by the bank and £20k by the banker (who ends up with £30k after 40% tax).

It still amazes me that the banking industry are even considering bonuses of this magnitude. They came real close to totally destroying the world economy and causing a long term depression, had to be bailed out with public funds. Yet they've shown fuck all remorse and think they can continue as normal. Bunch of cunts.

£20k by the banker (who ends up with £30k after 40% tax).

Apart from those who get their bonuses paid in shares, then transfer them to dodgy companies registered in the Cayman Islands, thereby avoiding all tax.

The more money you have = the more you can pay an accountant to find ways to get you out of paying so much tax.

£400 worse off because of these cunts and 50% one off charge on the bankers bonuses is bollocks because they already pay 40% tax so a 10% increase is shit...

So how much change do we get for every pound we earn...

£1 earnt
40p tax
12p NI
17.5p VAT

plus shit loads of tax on all the good things...

Fuel 70p
Cigarettes £3.50?
Alcohol Huh?

CUNTS, CUNTS and more CUNTS

VAT on wages  ? - if you're going to be outraged at least make an effort.

Nev, it is only a matter of time.

VAT is an EU tax and after Lisbon the powers that really rule us (i.e. The EU Commission) are already talking about direct taxes for the member states.

It can't go on. At some point the pips will squeak and we will all say 'enough' and then the whole fucking mess will come come crashing down thankfully.

Its a good point..alot of self employed people are working less..and with NI going up for small buisnesses there wont be alot of incentive to earn more.

How things have changed.  When I was self employed.  Small building company, we worked all the hours God sent if the work was there.  Make hay when the sun shines and all that.  Never know when the work will dry up.
