...Or the Noughties Awards, but I don't like the term.

After the success of the top Album poll, I may as well jump on the bandwagon of every other TV Program/Website/Tom, Dick and Harry and hold an overall best of everything poll. Before kicking off the votes though, I need a bit of help with categories- I don't want too many as frankly that means not many people will vote and it'll be too much work for me, but I thought I'd get some feedback on what categories people would like to see. Here's a few ideas of my own, broken down into categories

Music
Album is obviously already done, but Best Song and Best Band are obvious ones. Perhaps worst as well, as they tend to be just a fun

Film
Best Film could be broken down into genres or just comedy/serious perhaps. Would best actor or best character be better? as people tend to mean the latter when they vote for the former.

TV
Best TV show again can be split as the films are, best character is a definate here I think, possibly worst show as well so Simon Cowell can win something. Or Bonekickers, that was woeful.

Sport
Split this into STFC and non STFC- Best and Worst moments, Best and Worst performer/single performance, biggest Greek tosser award?

Culture/Other
Best Computer game or something like that? Scraping the barrel at this point

Any suggestions, fire away.

keep it simple, no point going down too many sub genres. It will just get messy otherwise.

There is no way that it wouldn't end up with Kasal ranked in the top 3 from joke votes though.

Who are you to claim that they are "joke votes"? The lad is a footballing genius.

I agree with Chubbs that too many sub categories could ruin it. Here's my thoughts tho...

Music

I think it would be too difficult to pick best songs. You would probably end up with a very split vote too. Plus it can be hard to judge one song you really like against another of a totally different genre. Best bands or male/female solo artists could work I suppose.

Best actor or best character polls don't appeal to me personally. I'd like to vote in a horror films of the decade poll but I accept that might be not be a widely held interest.

Best character would work better here than in the film category. I think a best TV comedy series would be well worthwhile. Best cartoon series might be good too (altho most of these would prob fit in the best comedy series so maybe not necessary).

Culture/Other
Best Computer game or something like that?

All these would work. Something to think about is would all these categories be a top 50? For example do we really want a list of 50 worst swindon moments?

I wasn't planning on making any of them top 50, top 3 at most.

So we would vote and you would work out the top 3 by the number of votes each has?

Sounds like a good idea.

Oh OK. 3 seems a bit meagre. How about top 10 or at least top 5?

Top 10s of even 10 categories is about 100 things, I'd rather have a smaller amount which is more detailed.

But top 3s isn't more detailed. It's broader in categories with less detail.
