Did a lucky dip of my collection and pulled out Town v Peterborough April 1977.

Allan,Dixon,Trollope,Stroud,Aizlewood,Prophett,Moss,Mclaughlin,Syrett,Mchale,Anderson...sub Taylor?
Posh line up includes a young Dave Gregory.....Dannys Desk was the manager having a whine at the Town fans!..Town were unbeaten for nine matches and he was getting stick.
Top scorer at this stage was Trevor Anderson on 13...for Bury Rowlands had 18...other notables was Peter Ward for Brighton on 25 and Dave Swindlehurst on 18 for Palace.
Our average crowd was a healthy 8,301....Brighton were the big boys on 19,002 followed by Palace on 14,888 and Wednesday on 14,178.
Brighton were top...Reading were bottom...Town 10th....around Easter...
Notabl highlights was a 3-3 draw at Fulham in the 3rd round fa cup match in front of 16,000...the replay featuring Marsh,Best and Moore was watched by 23,888 at the County Ground...Town won 5-0 Moss and Syrett with two apiece and Anderson.
Next round that goal v Everton by Stroud ensured a 2-2 draw in front of 24,000 and 38,780 watched us lose the replay at Goodison 2-1 after taking an 84th min lead..
Town had recently joined forces with Oxford for a match v Witney to raise money for Peter Housemans children...he and three others died in a smash near Oxford.....£3000 was raised a tidy sum then.
Finally the bit that caught my attention was the Rimes coach travel....Palace away £1.90p.....and Grimsby £2.55p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wrote about that game quite recently...not sure in which thread, but we were terrible and got beat 4-0. You could buy a house in Swindon for <3k back then.

Went to all those games you mentioned bar one. The Fulham away game is still one of the best i've been to. Unfortunately the old chap was on nights so i missed the 5-0.

I think I only saw Micky the once...around 77, the back end of Danny Williams' second coming.

Not living in Swindon meant I didn't see so many matches back then, but it was an Easter fixture, so was visiting the p's.

We played Posh and were truly terrible, got beat 4-0, it was windy, the pitch was bereft of grass, and despite having players like Mossy and Ray McHale, no bugger could get the ball down, which seemed to suit Posh's more direct style.

Micky certainly wasn't helped by the conditions, and got subbed for Wynne Hooper, who is right up there on my list of all time STFC duffers.

There you go....posted on Crozzer's thread about Micky French.

I can vividly remembering playing Northampton away on the Friday night...drew 1-1..three sided ground shared with the cricket pitch but can remember the home end was impresive...in those days it seemed like traveling to the end of the world.

I was also at this game. didn't we lose about 4 at home on the bounce including this one. I remeber us losing 1-0 at home to Bury during this run who had a nutjob called Entwhistle.

We played at the Manor on Good Friday,Will Dixon got his car smashed in asking his way
to the ground and was then sent off in the match! Peterborough the next day was dire as
was the 5 - 0 defeat at Palace.Harkouk tore us apart.

The only good thing that came at the end of the 77 season was beating Brighton and in the
process preventing them from winning the Championship.Mullery was kicked out of the Rendezvous
Club after the game, for foul and abusive language!
