Does rather sound like they're getting ready to ease Sturrock out - having a "head coach" appointed under you and your favoured "take them everywhere" coaching stuff get the push isn't the kind of thing you can see Sturrock volunteering for, unless it was forced on him as a last ditch effort to save his own position. And the quotes from the board seem to be talking about more general managery type things:
"Paul Sturrock is already charged with working to complete the review of all aspects of the football side of the club."
"He will now be supported in this work by Paul Mariner."
Sounds like a man being eased out to me
