I like the idea of it going to a person/s not in the limelight.....its all abit obvious really.

Unless there's someone really deserving e.g. Mandela or Mother Theresa then I agree. In relation to Mandela, Obama's done fuck all for peace.

I think you should have won it. the efforts that you make should be rewarded with a prize.

So basically he's got it for either being black or not being George Bush. That is some award worth having.

bullshit. he's done more than mandela in 12 days just by virtue of the power he has.

obamas election should be the catalyst for a complete revolution of world politics and our own, whether our political system, parties and beauracracy is too far gone is our own problem

that said, there is definite potential for him to bet yet another middle liner, but i dont think he will

While Obama may have won the Nobel Peace Prize, he will be saddened by the knowledge that he can never manage to win a Pride of Britain Award.

Yeah. Spending 27 years in prison, then refusing to be released with conditions attached, co-ordinating the negotations to end apartheid and then leading the transition of South Africa into a peaceful majority-led country was for shit. I've done more than that before breakfast and I've got a hangover.

Interesting that they think Stalin's country was the Russian Federation.  If they can't even get the name of the country right, no wonder they come up with some of these nominees.

Seems the Noble Prize is a bit of joke now doesn't it? Although i think the lowest point of such a coveted prize was the 2004 nomination of Bush and Blair for the peace prize. Completely fucking pathetic.

Michael Jackson fans must be disappointed.

Los Angeles, July 28 (RIA Novosti) Fans of the late pop star Michael Jackson have launched an internet campaign to have their idol nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Two online petitions have already collected more than 12,000 signatures in support of nominating the singer, who died of cardiac arrest June 25, for one of the world’s most prestigious awards.

“Michael’s message for humankind has always been rooted in compassion, and kindness. He has succeeded a lifelong dedication to the well being of humanity,” one of the petitions said.

The fans explain that Jackson should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for devoting his life to “helping others in their darkest time of need”.

“It would be nearly impossible to count the multiple hundreds of millions of dollars Michael has donated to charity from his own finances and also through organising major fund raising events,” reads the petition, which has been signed by more than 2,000 people.
