It'll be interesting what punishment Renault get from the FIA.

If sports we’re TV sitcom characters F1 would have to be Alan Partridge.

Utterly farcical.

Race fixing is one thing, but having a driver deliberately crash is beyond belief. Someone could very easily have been seriously hurt - another card hitting the debris or a steward hit by a car for example.

Surely its going to be a lengthy ban for the team and the driver from all motor sport.

Mr Piquet sir, see that cliff over there, be a good lad and jump off it will you?

Honestly, the only interesting bit about F1 is just how seriously they all take themselves.

I suspect that now that Briatore has gone all the blame will be put on him, the renault bosses will plead ignorance and probaby get off with a fine or suspended ban

There is no way they were the only two in the team other than Piquet who knew what was going to happen / happend.  Its just a cover up to take as much pressure off Renault as possible so they will continue to bank roll the team.  Which is pointless really with the new Lotus team yesterday and the BMW being bought by the owners of Notts County.

In my opinion throw the book at Renault, show everyone what happens when you fix races, let Renault quit the sport (for now) and still have 13 teams on the grid next year

Pathetic sentence, 2 year suspended ban for the team.

Flav has been given a life ban (QPR implications?) and Symonds a 5 year ban.

Look what happened to McLaren in spygate. This is just as serious in my eyes.

This is more serious though, the lives of Piquet, other drivers and spectators have been put at risk. Flying debris from Piquet's car could have hit anyone a la Massa incident. As you say pathetic, punishments in F1 clearly fit the team not the crime.
