Just checked with my mate who is a non-league guru and he said that the same rules apply with regards to the transfer window - we can't register him as a Town player until January. However we could loan him until that time and then make it permanent. I suppose it depends whether Wilson is thinking of signing him to be knocking on the 1st team door immediately or not?
My mate say that Austin is a real quality player though and he was hoping his team (Havant & W) would sign him!!

wouldn't hurt him to play in ther reserves for a bit either whilst he gets his fitness up.
Certainly not doing himself any harm in the amount of goals he's still scoring. With a bit more coaching he could improve quite a bit too.

It's been a long time since we unearthed a genuine talent from Non-League.
As Wilson says, it's not so much a risk when it's a striker concerned.

Pardon my ignorance but how many levels below League 2 are Poole Town?

Quite a bit was expected of Charlie Griffin back in the 90's. Chippenham were in the Western League and therefore something like a 7 tier difference between Chippenham and us in the Championship. It didn't work out but we were a poor side in a dire situation - perhaps had we been a level lower when he signed it could have worked out for him. Perhaps not.
Football has changed in the last decade, a lot more footballers slip through the net and find themselves at clubs like Poole.

Wasn't his first game for us away at Sunderland at the then fairly new Stadium of Light? That must have been a bit of a change for the (then) young lad.

Once upon a time I'd look out for results in the old Western League, a relo played for Paulton Rovers....big derby game Welton Rovers. Never did find out where Odd Down was.

It's in Bath Reg.
I saw a night game at Odd Down once against Chippenham (I've seen that fixture more than once!)

It's impressive they've got floodlights.
