I lost my poxy wallet yesterday and thankfully I had no cash in it but the most annoying part are the bank cards etc.

I have a photocard driving licence but since I moved over to Lux I never changed my address. I see on the DVLA website that to get a replacement is it £20, however I am not sure I'll be able to do this with my living outside of the UK.

I'm going to call the DVLA tomorrow, but just wondered if anyone would know what I can do?

I have tried but I think it might be a lost cause unfortunately. Going to pop into the police station before work tomorrow but I am not holding out much hope Sad

Luxembourgs not that big is it? Set aside an afternoon and you could probably cover it all no?

Other than that i have no idea what to do. What arriba said sounds sensible though

Word of warning if you apply for a new licence online. First you fill in some forms and tick some boxes. Then once that's done it asks for payment. Then, and get this, because it made me absolutely FUCKING LIVID!

After payment and using all the brilliance our shambolic government can muster, it tells you that you need to print off all the forms (the same ones you've just filled in, only they're blank) and send them along with photos (ones they previously said they don't need) to the below address...

I got pretty angry with them and got my money back. Cunts. Smiley

I found the online system very useful, and an enjoyable experience.

They actually take your picture from the passport database.

It's well smart!

I'd just phone up and say you need to change your address but have lost the counterpart license.

I had a similar problem a few years ago.  The DVLA informed me that I needed a current UK address to get a replacement driving license.

Me too ... and I have found it useful having a licence with a UK address at times. I use my mum's addy, but if you have any friendly relatives in the UK you could try them ... on account of my mum not really knowing you. (Er, you've never been to Walthamstow, right?)

Yeah that's what it said, but once i'd completed all the steps, it requested everything again in paper form. It just made no sense after telling me, like you say, that it can be lifted from the passport.

Ok so if I want to change it to my Dad's address, can I just do this online or phone up and change it? Clearly I won't be able to send them any evidence of me living there.

If I remember correctly for a change of address, as long as you've got the card as well as the paper part, you just have to complete the new address details on the paper and sign it and send both bits to DVLA. I think it says this on the paper part, but remember the new licence will be sent to your Dad's place. In your case presumably the photocard was in the wallet, so you'll need to apply for a replacement http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Motoringtransactions/BeforeyouapplyC/DG_067507
(I KNOW YOU KNOW THAT!) but use a credit/debit card for an account with a UK address. If necessary change the address of a suitable card to your dad's address as I guess the current address on your licence would not correspond to any accounts you still hold. If UK addresses for the last 3 years (including the one on your licence atm) are not a problem you should be ok.

Dunno Samdy ... perhaps you'd be kind enough to relocate it?

Thanks for the info and apologies for putting the topic in Players, this was an oversight on my part.

I think what I might do is try and see if my old flatmates from Edinburgh still live in the same flat (I have them on Facebook) and just get the new card sent to my old address for them to forward on to me.

I'll have to wait until I get my UK debit/credit card sent to me although this is registered now to Luxembourg so I am not sure that the payment will go through. We shall see.
