Either roast, or mashed with carrot, onion or both...sweet as a nut.
Butternut squash and celeriac are both tasty...
The trick with swede is to bring out the flavour with nutmeg and mashed with a small amount of cream. Lovely. Brussels are lovely, I'll eat them any way I can. But my fave is to fry them off in a pan with some bacon/pancetta. Thanks Jamie Oliver. Roasted butternut squash with Northwood Fire seasoning is a gift from the gods. Lucky we've a few growing in the veggie patch.

I think you are becoming confused with tomato.

I have some time for radish.
Not nearly as much time that I have for beetroot though.

Home prepared beetroot are the way forward...supermarket bought are OK but lack that certain something. Spring onions are under-rated...particularly good with cheese and cider for supper.

That is just so wrong - beetroot is a despoiler of all foods it comes into contact with. Marrow, though, is up there with the leek as a king among vegetables

Spinach is the king of vegetables. Great with prawns in a curry. Sprouts and cabbage are also ace. Swede is lush and not vomited from the nostrils of satan. As BR said that is the tomato..

No, butternut squash is the king. I said it earlier, and due to that fact, I win.

Fond though I am of butternut squash, chalkie is right that spinach > butternut squash. And isn't butternut squash just bascially an American marrow, anyway?

Butternut Squash is ace but it fucks with your hands when you're doing anything with it.

Butternut squash is really versatile. You can use it in soups, roast it with the skin on (it becomes nice and soft). I put it in Thai red curries, works a treat.
I have only ever cooked with marrow once, I made a ratatouille with it (only because they had no Aubergine in the shop) and it turned out great. But, I prefer courgette to marrow, so don't think i'd bother with it again.
