we seemed to have corner after corner tonight.

we looked really threatening and had a few chances cleared off the line.

And as Dell said how the hell did paynters diving header not go in. Must of been a supurb save
I think The keeper gambled, and it paid off with the ball coming straight back off him. I think it hit his leg but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah he basically went the wrong way but stuck his leg out. Good save really.

As for us the battling for every thing was superb, and yes same as all have said could have been a bigger win but for their keeper. Well done Town !

No wonder Leeds were pissed about Douglas leaving...............ha ha ha !

Had a neutral with me tonight who was very impressed with the way we got the ball down and played football.

Macca was good, but JPM and Douglas were different gravy, with Douglas holding it gives Mcgovern licence to run around like a nutjob, something he's bloody good at. Not overly impressed with Tope, he's played too much Prem reserve football, always looking to do to much. The sooner he realises that he's got a split second to make his mind up and do something the better, he overan the ball on so many occasions.

Our work rate and tempo off the ball, both defensively and attacking, was the biggest difference I noticed between this season and last though, unreal hassling and so lively up top and out wide when we've got the ball deep.

Atmosphere was top notch, their fans were absolute dogshite though.

poor ol billy, if we were playing a team without an awesome keeper he'd have had atleast 3. his link up play was awesome and generally pissed off their centrebacks which was nice to see.

soton's cheating annoyed me immensely. Thomas going down under a challenge on the touchline where the ref gives BP a talking to for er closing him down.

obadeyi's late run in the first half he hurdles their feller and the feller stays down with a magical injury. the ball breaks out, he gets up and is suddenly fine.

what an brilliant performance though, i just hope this is STFC of 09/10 and not a blip

went to york road chippy and there were some soton fans saying how they'd paid £1million for thomas, which seems a lot for a footballer who seemingly can't pass or do much but head a ball. to an extent i think it shows that people moaning we should be "emptying the coffers" (as i heard someone moaning to the same fan) and we'll hopefully be a lot more secure and it doesn't always pay off

I'm won't repeat everyone elses praise, just comment on Macca - He showed some amazing close control tonight and most of his dribbling was just impossible to defend against.
Aye, he actually turned up didn't he!  Makes such a difference.

Pretty fair summary from a Saints forum:

Quote
Tonight was virtually a carbon copy of the Huddersfield game - a shaky defence, the midfield almost non existant and a willing frontline forced to feed off scraps. It's alright having quality strikers like Lambert but pointless if they are not getting the service. Once again tonight Super Kelv saved us from humiliation, make no mistake 1-0 flattered us. Swindon had two fast tricky wingers, especially McNamee on the left and they ripped us apart. They looked comfortable on the ball and moved it around well whilst we were panicky in posession and usually ended up hoofing it forward aimlessly

Morrison to grab one I reckon.

Cheesy I actually remembered you'd said this after he scored (I thought you'd said 1-0 too but nevermind).

Hopefully we can exploit them at set pieces as they cant defend them for shit

...and I thought of this just before Morrison scored.

Morrison's throws are stupidly long now, he doesn't even need to lever himself into the throw that much.

Something Wilson said in his post-match interview makes me think we'll work on this in training. We absolutely need to because we're not putting that throw to good use at the moment. I think we'll see a few goals come from it before too long though.

Players that stood out for me...

LUCAS (I'm so glad we've got him in goal now. He's does dominate his area and reads the game well. Very focussed and can already see him becoming popular with the crowd)

Morrison (good again, great to have a consistent performer at such a young age)

Amankwaah (exploited the space we had down the side and like others pressured Southampton when they had the ball)

McGovern (good attacking, continued form from Saturday, a lot of effort)

MacNamee (great runs as usual, a nightmare for defenders to play against)

Greer (solid, so glad he's captain now not Aljofree) and Timlin also deserve a mention.

Like others have said I'm chuffed with how we were focussed and held on to the lead. But also we didn't just sit back. We were still attacking and putting them under pressure without getting stupid and leaving ourselves exposed at the back.

Atmosphere was great. My favourite bit was when we got ambitious and tried to get the Arkells involved, saying Arkells give us a song then trying to get them to do the Wilsons Red and White Army call and response thing - then when they everyone singing "WAKE UP IN THE ARKELLS STAND"  Cheesy Cheesy Soapy Tit Wank Soapy Tit Wank priceless.

Awesome display, Midfield worked well, zipped the ball around, was pleased the way we basically outplayed them.
