Any qualified (legal) solicitors about?

Just a punt before I ring a random.

To cut to the chase by the end of the day I will have a letter that needs signing by/in the presence of a solicitor.  Due to me being on holiday this would need to be done a week Monday or Tuesday (i.e.24th/25th) in Swindon (as I live here!).

The letter is in regards to an enhanced severance package, which I intend to accept.

Payment would be via invoice of my soon to be former employer.

Ring great western sols on commercial road and ask for Tony. he may be in court but they will help

Failing that try Lemon & Co in commercial road - they'll probably charge a fiver but last time I needed them I rang and went straight down there.

Had a similar situation a few years back Batch (the company closed our office and offered us all VR) and IIRC we all used Lemon & co. But I think the company paid for it so don't know how much it cost

Most solicitors will have someone who can do 'swears' as I believe its called.  My missus works for  a firm in devizes and get a tenner a time for doing it.

Batch - is it just a 'sign in the presence of' or do you want to get a solictor to look it over and point out potential problems ?

Companies will usually stump up for the cost if the latter, especially if it's some kind of 'compromise agreement'

As gk says 'swears' are cheap (Lemon & Co cheapest I've found)

For the life of me I can't remember what the legal name for the letter is, but it basically says I accept a wedge of cash but waive rights to legal recourse related to my redundancy. I don't expect there to be an issue with the letter but for legal reasons I have to have it read and explained and signed by a solicitor.  I pick it up at 6:30 so can't be more specific.

The alternative is to reject the enhanced package/retain rights but go down the statuary redundancy payment route. I don't think so.

It'll probably be an appointment job then - make sure they know its a compromise agreement that you wish to go through. Your employers should definitely pick up the bill, but clear that with all parties first.  Good luck - hope they're making it worthwhile

ive noticed Justion Tomlinson started posting a bit lately,I think his Mrs is a solicitor(I could be wrong) I reckon if you promise to vote Tory in the next election he'd help you out

I had to get a Compromise Agreement signed last Christmas Batch. Company paid up to £200 for the solicitor (funnily enough, his hourly rate!) Mine was two half hour slots, one for him to read it through, another to go back and sign it. They may encourage you to take it to tribuneral for more dosh (for them and you), but obv. you have to pay up front to go down that route (in time and money). I just signed it and took the dosh.

You might just need it signed though. And you're in Swindon. So I've been no help at all.
