It just isn't possible to predict the weather months in advance.

Course it is... St Swithun's Day should see you alright...then oaks and ashes and  the relative chronology of their foliage arrival does the job.

Usually they just have a look and see what the North Atlantic Jet Stream's doing. The further south it is generally means worse weather.

When the long range forecasts were done earlier in the year the jet steam was sitting nicely just north of Scotland, which is the ideal position for a generally hot summer. But the jet stream shifted and is now sitting around the level of the English Channel which generally gives for more wet weather.

Long range weather forecasting is pointless.  Chaos theory.  That's all you need to know.

Talking of Chaos, it's been a while since I've seen KAOS graffiti.  (Supports my theory that Oxford are becoming increasinly irrelevant as rivals to STFC.)

I like wellys - but after the age of about 4 years old they are just not acceptable "anytime" footwear anymore?

Wellies are the preferred footwear of sheepshaggers.

A good alternative to wellington boots is to wrap plastic bags around your shoes so they don't get dirty.
