Wilson seems to keep hinting towards a one up front different formation.

I personally do not like the sound of that one bit.

I don't think it will actually happen, I think he's just trying to make it sound like we're not desperate for strikers as otherwise prices will start to go up (especially as the Cox sale price was fairly well known)

Wilson has always really played 4-4-2 and has stated a preference for it here as well. I can see us moving to 1 up front away from home against some of the bigger sides perhaps but not much else.

I have to agree with DV to pull off a 1 up front you need to have a great ball winning and holding the ball up striker, which I am sorry but Paynter just isn't.

Wayne Allison or Parkin or even Mooney were the last strikers we had that could play that role, Fallon at a push but not Paynter.

Paynter will do an ok job of it. Nothing more, nothing less.

He did the role last season purely because he's a slightly bigger build than Cox. You can tell its not Paynters strongest points but he did it well for the team and it allowed Coxy to be Coxy.

If true and he is actually fit then surely getting rid of Barry Corr looks like a big fuck up just about now?

Getting Corr fit is fine keeping him fit was the issue

surely wilson is only talking about using one up front because that is all he has at his disposal right now? I cannot understand anyone panicking about our lack of strikers when the season is still weeks away? If we're in this siaution in three weeks, then yes...

he can hardly play two up top if doesn't have em, and playing with one is not a bad apporach to have on the road.

I don't get 'the beef'

because 3 weeks was at one point 4,5,6 weeks.

soon it will be 2 weeks, then 1 week....

before you know it we'll be off to Gillingham and playing 1 upfront.

That's not fact is it. We always knew this would be the main area we would struggle to recruit

I'm hoping Wilson is just making sure the right option is signed, or the best of what we can get - I'm sure he's working on it and negotiating transfers every day.

If we have to spend a million or so on a striker then what was the point of selling Cox?

I think we may end up with a few gambles if we can't sign our preferred targets.

I think we will go for a journey man type and a young Loan player.
