Crazy how they were the model only three, four years ago.

I bet the fans who thought Curbishley had taken them as far as he could and needed to go are feeling a touch foolish now.

Should have known Charlton were in trouble when they named Phil Parkinson permanent manager despite them not winning any of the games (Cool when he was temporarily in charge.

I'd imagine a good chunk of it is a mortgage on their ground - that accounted for over £25m of Southampton's debt.

Wouldn't have thought so, the grounds been pretty much the same for years, with no major construction or expansion.

The Beeb were reporting earlier this week they were close to a takeover, has this collapsed now then? Or is this just the usual piss and wind in the run-up to a potentially controversial takeover - "accept this deal or we go into admin/bust/to Milton Keynes" (in descending order of awfulness)?

What it shows is just how important it is to get the right manager and stick with him.

Charlton were held up for years as an example of how a club should be run, and rightly so. All of that coincided with Curbishley doing a great job as manager though. As soon as he went they started making mistakes all over the place.

Fitton and co got a lot of things right when they first ook over, but most of it was overshadowed by the appointment of Malpas. Hopefully now we have a proven manager in charge, they will get more of a return from their other good moves.
