He was the polar opposite on the pitch compared to his behavior off. Teams gave up trying to wind him up because he was just zen. I’m also pretty sure he never picked up a booking. Such a strange lad

He was up there in the best 3 holding strikers/target men I have ever seen at Swindon, his teamwork was 2nd to none. In the dressing room he was very nice and popular too I heard.

But move away from his football working environment and he never got rid of the "gansta" mentality. I had very high hopes for him, as did Budgie when me and HerthaB spoke to him pre game at Salisbury when Ranger was 18, he said I have a million pound player here to us, and TBH he would have been had he not been a fool in his personal life.

He presented me with a Birthday Cake and to be honest at that time this wasn’t the lad you would have imagined (came across very well). On the pitch excellent.
Unfortunately off it he was self destruction.

Wasn’t Ranger 23/24 when he came to us? He had been about a bit before we ended up with him, don’t think he was that young.

He was, I am talking about when he was on trial with us and never signed.

Quote
Originally on the Town’s radar in 2008, controversial striker Ranger was offered terms by David Byrne after a trial spell, having been released by Southampton for his misdemeanours - but former Town boss Dennis Wise stepped in to take the forward to Newcastle. Five years later, after a series of scrapes with the law and disciplinary issues saw him leave St. James’ Park, Swindon moved to sign Ranger on a one-year contract with the option of a year’s extension - a controversial and risky move, stealing in ahead of a number of Championship suitors, who were waiting for the outcome of a court case in which Ranger was charged with rape. Upon signing, Ranger vowed to clean up his act - stating that he was looking forward to getting his career back on track.

Never knew he had been on trial before hand. Doesn’t surprise me Wise took him with him.

Ranger...a nightmare off the pitch. Crying, crying shame.

Scored against the Slave Traders too....I will always remember that!

BBC article featuring Curtis Weston, who I recall had a a falling out with Sturrock when he managed Swindon: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c70jv09v1xpo

Flogged him a phone purely on the back of it being mirrored and bling as fuck when I worked at phones 4U.

Got a very nice commission out of it and even better then half the rest of the squad rocked up wanting me to set them up deals too.

They were all really nice guys when I was talking to them but Curtis was an absolute top bloke.

Signed for us by Wise after they were at Millwall together. Think he was youngest player in a cup final vs United.
