From what I've seen not all league two players can pick a pass or a shot.

Not in games, no, but they can when the pressure and pace of a game is off.  Lets not kid ourselves, very good players with good talent levels never make the grade at L2 level.  Between L2 and the Championship, the difference is usually only down to a level of consistency in imposing themselves in games, or having developed a level of footballing know how.  Take Ifil back in the day - he had all the necessary qualities to be a great defender at a top level, he just went to pieces when he had time to think, his footballing brain never really developed and it held him down a level or two.  He always looked better with an older head guiding him through games, no matter his age.

I remember, in the 90;s, watching Bristol Rovers warm-up before a game, sitting in the front row of the DR near the 18 yard line.  They were pinging lovely passes around, before possession football was a thing, good touches and movement.  I thought they were going to cause us trouble if they did that in the game.  They kick off and the ball never saw the ground!  They were shit.  It's a different type of example, but that sums up Devoy for me.  You could make a great video reel of him, and then watch him as a fan of a team he rocks up at and wonder what on earth happened.

It's amazing how many players from the last 10-15 years I have zero recollection of and who I wouldn't recognise if they walked up to me in the street and punched me in the face. Josh Keyes is one such example.

To be fair, he was a youth teamer who didn't get offered a pro contract, unless you watched the youth cup run there's not much chance you'd have come across him.

Good move for him though.

He's probably not wrong, but the dad of a recently released player is understandably not going to have the most unbiased view of the decision making process. Those who watched the youths didn't seem stunned that he didn't get a deal, far more surprise over Hubbard and Kanu. Hopefully he does well with Watford.

I think we can all read between the lines of what he's saying though.

I wonder how many transfers we had a clause put in the contract for with Bogle. Its fairly standard to have lower sell on fee percentages for further future transfers.

With Charlie Austin we had a fee when he went from Burnley originally then an add on fee when he went to QPR and then more when he went to Southampton, all at a much lower percentage each time but still significant. I heard it was more than £200k for his 2nd transfer to Southampton on a £4m transfer fee.

Less than a 3 week stay as head analyst at Bristol Rovers then.
