Won't be Colchester, as Burton and Crawley after him and at least 1 more L1 club.

Tell Sam Sam Morshead @SamMorshead_ Payne had a medical today. Turned down #stfc, two League One sides and MLS.

TBH Colchester does make sense geographically for him but I would suggest not financially or for football quality.
Cant really see the Cowley's style of play suiting him. Didn't suit him first time round at Lincoln so cant see why it would be any different at Colchester.

Exactly this but money talks and he still lives in Essex so I guess it sorta makes sense. Colchester spending high with wages this season apparently. I hope the Cowleys crash and burn.

Apart from Payne they haven't really signed anyone yet that has me thinking they'll be a decent side this season. The Cowleys seem to just be signing players that have played from them in the past.

Not disagreeing on him not suiting Cowley's style of play but Payne was never on loan here. We signed him on a free transfer August 2020. http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/Person.asp?PersonID=PAYNEJACHe was also strongly linked to Pompey the next Summer when Cowley was manager there & Payne was confirmed to have a relegation release clause active before agreeing to stay. So seems like they have a good relationship with each other. Still seems like an odd decision for him from an enjoying his football standpoint. Ah my mistake I thought he joined us on loan to start with that turned into a perm deal. I know Lincoln were paying 50% of his wages still though as part of the deal.

Ben Goodliffe from Sutton looks a decent signing at CB and Harry Anderson has a lot of experience in midfield who looked handy at Rovers a couple of years back, they are rumoured to be in for another 2 ex Lincoln players. Also Matt Macey from Pompey is a decent keeper for this level, ex Arsenal and Hibs. And dont forget Rob Hunt too. Cowleys going with who they already know I guess, which we assumed Flynn would do with us but wasnt allowed.

Cowley signed Payne at Lincoln in July 2019 then left a couple of months later for Huddersfield (not 3 weeks as I have previously stated, so sorry for that ) so it's probably difficult to say whether or not Cowley's style of play suited him. Michael Appleton was in charge of Lincoln for most of Payne's stay there.

Crazy to think that Kayden Jackson was a literal competition winner and has gone on to have a solid career with some decent moves.

He has had a good career off that win, he had to drop pretty low to restart/start his actual career but since his move to Accringotn he hasnt looked back, fair play to him, fairly limited footballer but with a lot of pace when I have seen him. A goal every 5 games isnt too bad at that level but only broke double figures twice in a season.

James Collins is also on Derby's books, quite the ex-Swindon Town forward line.
