Not really an ex, but Marc Antoine Fortune scores for Chesterfield, but Maidenhead have scored 3.

Wtf is going on at Chesterfield. Only 1 place outside the Conference trap door. That’s Mad Dog for you, I suppose.

Allen is a Conference specialist. What it shows is that you get on a slide and it can be very difficult to apply the brakes.

I hate Martin Allen, I am so glad he wasn't appointed bos with us, he must be close to being sacked there already as the fans hate him and his style and their results have been frankly embarressing with 8 defeats and only 3 wins in their first 13 games, thats Flipflop territory Wink

Had Spireites got Allen in last season, they'd have probably been ok.  However they went with Caldwell.... on the surface a credible choice, but they made a fundamental error.... you can see it here when talking about signing Brad Barry...

wanted to play Luke style.  I will give Power credit for binning that, and going with the more pragmatic Flitcroft style, otherwise that could have been us.

At the time I wondered if the D o F, Branston had ever seen him play, and suggested they could be in a pickle as a consequence.

Must have missed this at the time but Brad Barry apparently swallowed his tongue on the pitch last year and was saved by the quick-thinking action of Drysdale (referee Darren not ex-left back Jason)

Harry Smith on the end of an 8-0 drubbing at West Ham. I'm sure he could've done better than Macclesfield?

I think Macclesfield signed him thinking he'd be their target man, which was quite a big mistake.  His movement is very poor and he doesn't hold the ball up well.  He's not very good in the air either.  He'd be better playing up front alongside a target man as I think his finishing is his strong suit.

However, the crowd was about 25,000, and Macc will get a decent cut of the proceeds, so not all bad.

Lots of ex Town scorers today.

Jutkiewicz 2 for Brum, Swift for Reading, Collins for Luton, Delfouneso for Blackpool, Cox for Southend, Norris for Col U, Elsnik for Mansfield, Rooney for Salford.

Col U fans love Norris.

I'm glad it's working out for him. Got a rough ride here and didn't deserve it.

I'm not sure the stick he got was disproportionate in 16/17....  OK it was chiefly the fault of the recruiting and coaching staff, but he was clearly out of his depth as a Div 3 striker.

We Town fans know a bit about strikers as we've had some decent ones down the years. 4 goals in 39 appearances including off the bench, just wasn't good enough, so bound to attract some moans and groans.

Interestingly the last striker that I can think of who did well for ColU was Jamie Cureton, who didn't do it for us but got 23 in a Championship season for ColU before moving on, after he went there from us.

Before Cureton, the only one I can think of was Tony Adcock from the early/mid 80's.... there may be others, ColU not exactly a specialist subject

Jutkiewicz is bloody 29, god I feel old now! Seems to have carved out a half decent career, 374 games and 78 goals, Championship seems to be his natural level!

Yes hes had a decent career really, he always was a big lad even when he was with us as a 17 year old.

Good target man and very good in the air.

Bit of an unsung striker who doesn't often get much more than a handful of goals each season, only very rarely getting in double figures, but contributes a lot more to the team.

Would love him up front for us as a target man.

I didn't witness the 4 goal season for Norris, so feel thankful.  If it was worse than last season, then it must have been a sight to behold for a striker.

He just looked awkward, nothing seems natural for him and he didn't seem much good any one discipline - not a target man, not a poacher, not really pacey etc.  Never wish ill of many players, but he was awful - good at penalties mind.

There was certainly nothing to suggest he be prolific anywhere.  Cureton on the other had, you knew he had the instinct and some ability, was just terrible for us at the start and came with high hopes.

Mitchell was another one looking back I couldn't quite understand.  I suppose he had pace and elbows.  He clearly had a big impact for us though, but I can;t quite imagine him ever playing in the top flight.

Last season Luke did work for the team, and also scored a few.... a lot of managers appreciate this. Look at Olivier Giroud, WC winner and now starting for Chelsea, works for others doesn't score many. This is fine as long as someone is scoring... we're OK atm as goals are being spread around, but the news today on Doughty is worrying, looks likely to be a long term injury.
