It always seem a mystery to me that Town fans remember him as being shit because that's certainly not what I remember.

Good solid CB who did decent job for us.
Anyone believing he was shit has just formed that opinion due to bitterness caused by his choice of next club.

Not really I thought he was pretty crap before he went there and I rated Grant Smith.
Heywood was good in the air and crap on the deck, sums him up imo...

When they said he was an ex-pro I had no idea who he was, I take little interest in football outside local non-league, the conf North or the premier league (motd) so was impressed that he'd had a really good career.
I've not seen a Swindon game since they were in the prem themselves and then I have an impressive record of not seeing a defeat despite watching six games!

Two former Swindon strikers making their managerial debuts tomorrow. One legend and one who barely made a name for himself.
Duncan Shearer leads Inverness CT against St. Johnstone (caretaker) while Alex Meechan leads Barrow AFC vs. AFC Telford (also caretaker)
Best of luck to them!

In a thread a good while back, I think we established that Alex Meechan had the shortest STFC league career. 1 sub appearance coming on in added on time. It is of course possible that one of Paolo's boys might have usurped that coveted record. DV? Here's said thread....5 years later, and I still haven't had time to check the Adver microfilm. It was probably in the old Ref then, a lovely ramshackle sort of place. The section in the new library, although better than nothing really has no chance of developing "character" due to having to cater for early 21st Century society...so not a nice place to be. http://thetownend.com/index.php?topic=31938.0

I thought Meechan made a few appearances. Seem to remember another striker, Michael Pattimore, get a pro contract the same year as Meechan and he must have had all of 5 minutes on the pitch for us. Then there was the 'bumper' year when Alan Flanagan, Ricki Culbertson, Sam Campagna, Paul McAreavey and Fraser McHugh got contracts. The bright young hopes... I suppose McAreavey and McHugh continued professional careers, but not sure the others did.
