Driving around the capital this week i was amazed how many hand car wash operations ther were...every industrial estate and also note Swindon have a fair few now..so much for the recesion when it comes to cleaning our cars eh..have used the one at the garage in Gypsey lane and they were pretty cheap compared to others..did a good job too.

Do it yourself. Cheaper in the long run with the right products and more effective. Oh, and never use a sponge.

You're not one of those people with a pristine show room condition Ford Escort MkI, with the handbook still in the plastic wrapper and an array of tooth brushes for those hard to reach areas in the engine bay? God, those people are sad.

My point is that I think people that keep cars in showroom condition are sad. I used to go to Escort owner shows with my brother and just could never understand them - some would take the car there on a truck to save damage.
I put as many miles on my car as possible and its covered in dents and scratches (only a few were my fault), which all adds to the character as far as I'm concerned.

For the record, and to somewhat satisfy your curiousity, no I am not that sad sod. I was just fed up of taking my car to the Jetwash, or to those monkeys at ARC or whatever it is. Investment in two buckets, a wash mitt, some decent shampoo and a bit of time/elbow grease keeps my car nice and clean. Particularly important as it often gets covered in sand often (due to living near a beach) and I'm trying to sell it.

Nothing wrong with that. As I said its the people that are obsessed I don't get, the ones who enter concours events. If you're never seen one before it will blow your mind, all the cars in the same condition as they left the factory in 20 years before. If you get to close to one they shout at you as they're worried the condensation from your breath will smear their bodywork.
