What makes a good stadium?

1. Easy to get to (with plenty of pubs / food nearby)
2. Comfy seats (preferably covered)
3. Good atmosphere.
4. Stands  Cheesy

Oxford's ground is 4 miles from the middle of town, outside the ring road, next to a sewerage plant and along side one of the roughest estates in the south of England.  You can't get there by train.  It's in a pub desert.  And it's plastic as fuck.  It's a textbook case on how not to relocate a football stadium.

The County Ground is infinitely the better ground and if Arriba knew this all along and was pulling my leg, I'll gladly hold my hand up and admit that I fell for it.

I'm not sure I did, just picked up on that part because I'm a Town fan really...

There was no part to pick up on, you made up your own irrelevant point. We're well aware of Kassam's shithole stadium that we have to play in.

The Manor Ground > The Kassam Stadium

Yep that was the piece alright.  Wasn't there something about Luton (and Wimbledon the 2nd largest club in your league) selling considerably more season tickets than oxford as well?

Yep, apparently we're 4th in season ticket sales so far, behind Luton, AFC, and Mansfield.

the actual ground itself is better than ours.i wasn't taking into account the location etc.
their 3 sided ground would be an improvement on the county ground if it was sited there.

What makes a good stadium?

Good question...

There will be people that tell you a ground is a good ground because they have a McDonalds on site, there will be people that tell you a ground is a good ground because they have corporate facilities, there will be people that tell you a ground is a good ground because it's pretty, there will be people that tell you a ground is a good ground because you can get a shit load of people in it, there will be people that tell you a ground is a good ground because it's all seater and so on and so on...

For me a good ground has to have atmosphere, it can be as pretty as you want but no-one can tell me that Molineux is better than Loftus Road, which for me is one of the finest grounds in the UK, it's so close to the pitch, there will deffinately be people (near me) that will tell you Stadium:MK is a good ground but I'd much rather be at Kenilworth Road than that American arena...

I guess my answer is that a good ground can only go as far but the fans in it are what gives it it's personality, who'd have thought when we crashed the party that the Brittania would be the loudest ground in the prem with about a third of the capacity of Old Trafford...

In fact I don't really know what my point is but I know what I like about a ground as soon as I walk in, I think my least favourite ground this year was the Walkers Bowl - horrible!

Correct aside from the pub thing. The Priory is right next door for a start.

OK I guess, what I read from the initial post from the Oxford fan about Luton was that teams raise their game at Oxford because yours is the best in the league and that because Luton's ground is a bit shit that they'll maybe not do the same there, which for me isn't irrelevant but a direct argument regarding what he said - if I've missed something and he meant something else then I apologise.

Seems a fair summary, though there was no boasting that ours is "the best ground in the league". Opposition sides raise their game because compared to the others in this league the stands are massive and its new. Luton don't have that but their reputation will make up for it.

So where does your original response come into it?

surely every Oxford fan must know that that ground is a laughing stock?
