That notice has been up since before the EPL and SPL withdrew their rights.

I think their own T&Cs provide scope for cancellation on reduced service grounds, that's assuming they don't pull (another) fast one and changed them again.

Quote
8. Ending the Contract
Unless Conditions 8(a) (b) or (f) apply, this Contract will stay in force for at least the Minimum Term The Contract will otherwise continue unless it is ended according to the Conditions below.
(a) If we reduce or vary significantly the total amount of programmes available on the Channels within, or the level of service of, your chosen Option, or change the terms and conditions to your detriment, you may end this Contract by giving us a minimum of one month’s written notice within 30 days of the change in programmes or level of service or terms and conditions as applicable.

Long and short, if you pay by direct debit you can give notice and cancel it, if you pay by credit  card they have you by the balls.

But like you say, it's unlikely to be an ongoing concern in its current form! As long as Sky (or one of the FTV chans) get the FA Cup and England jobs a good un.

Seems that ESPN will be managed by Sky the same way they handled their own PPV and how they give access the the likes on Man U & Chelsea TV, early indications are it will be £10 a month.

I hope that ESPN do not snap up the rights to the england games, I hope it goes to ITV or BBC as any national game should be free to air

Setanta has got rid of you, assuming you are in GB the screens have gone blank. They will be taking no more payments.

clearly you did.

i was going to change to setanta but luckily i didn't as i would have been stuck with Virgin and no Setanta whilst also paying a large sum of money, so i stayed with Sky and got HD @ £20pm cheaper than what Virgin would have cost so it's Happy Days

Except we don't know what Virgin will be doing yet so if it was me I'd have waited. Now that Setanta are history Virgin will have to do something to compensate their TV XL customers, it might even work out better - ESPN could be free taking the place of Setanta. Plus you still don't know what Sky will be charging for ESPN.

What package did you get from Sky? I checked their prices when I upgraded my Virgin package to include V+ and Setanta / Sky Sports and it was cheaper than Virgin on a straight comparison. Would have cost me even more with Sky though as I'd have been on their "national broadband" which is more expensive and slower. Plus there is also the issue of me not being allowed to put up a sat dish where I live.

well the package i've priced up with Virgin was:
V+ Box
Additional V Box
TV XL + Sky Sports Pack
Phone XL
Broadband Size L

Installation = £99
Monthly Cost = £79.95

With Sky i have ordered:
Sky HD (packages not included are Movies and Music)
Free Sky + for Multiroom
Sky Phone Unlimited (half price line rental for 6 months)
8mb Broadband

Installation = FREE
HD Box = £49
Monthly Cost = £58 for first 6 months then £63pm thereafter

Saving me almost £20pm so if ESPN is an additional £10pm i can afford it.

I get TV XL, BB L, Phone M and Sky Sports for £58 a month with Virgin. I imagine an extra V box and TV XL would cost me between £5-£10 a month extra which would make the price comparable with Sky and you should be able to get installation for £49 as well. But you have to give them a call and argue, quoting prices from Sky to get a deal.

Got to wait and see what happens with ESPN, good chance they will bundle it with TV XL to replace Setanta. If they don't I'll be having words to get a new deal to compensate for the loss and extra costs. Will be even better if they sort a deal for ESPN America and Classic at a reasonable cost.

never thought of arguing with Virgin to see what deals we can do as we've already got sky so was easier. Plus sky are getting back the Monday night games as of 2010/11 season.

Mate at work is hoping they strike a deal for ESPN America & Classics too. he used to live out in America so enjoys all the baseball etc

I wouldn't say to no ESPN America, for the hockey and baseball, but not at £10 a month.

I'm wondering if Sky will sell the Monday night package to ESPN, so they have the same 46 games in future. Sky aren't stupid and they know they need a decent relationship with ESPN as they're not dealing with a tin pot competitor any more. It looks like this is just the start of a full blown ESPN move in to Europe, I'd be very surprised if they don't pick up the rest of the football that Setanta had.
