If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit...

Get a Limo/Cab to take you there and back, get hammered sleep in your own bed for the same price as a hotel room each.

Stay in Pontypridd and get the train there and back - it is only about a 15 minute train ride.
The town centre is a bit run down but the people are dead friendly.
There are a few cracking pubs in Ponty, and they have a really good brewery there too. Try the Otley near Treforrest station, The Bunch of Grapes by B&Q and the Llanover near the top of the municipal park. The Otley has its own brewery, The Bunch of Grapes is a Brains pub and the Llanover is a freehouse.
I lived in Ponty for 3 years, and got the train down to Cardiff every Saturday and Thursday, Saturday for generally getting pissed up and Thursdays for Goth night at the Student Union

But it's returning in the small hours, you won't get anything cheap after midnight.

I don't know any names, and this may or may not be helpful, but there is a main road that leads in to the city centre called Newport Road - its basically just two miles of B&Bs - chuck Newport road, Cardiff + B&B into google and see what comes up.
