I seem to recall a few TEFers have been. Much to see/do there?

Thinking of a 3 day break at the end of the month and it looks very reasonable at £280 for 2 adults in a 4* hotel for 2 nights including flights with sleazyjet, courtesy of lastminute.com.

How easy is it to get about and to/from the airport?

Airport is fucking miles away, but the city centre (old part) is pretty compact. Stay somewhere near St Wenceslas Square, most things are reachable from there. In the evenings get away from that a little, just across the bridges are some nice areas and about a third the price of the main tourist strip.

great place, try and find a bar away from the main squares though. Prices are much much cheaper. Couple of great, cheap restaurants over the bridge.

Just to add onto this lastminute.com have some pretty amazing deals at the moment as do Expedia.

Hotel I wanted disappeared from lastminute but found it again on Expedia.  5* Barcelona for 4 nights including flights £380 for 2 people.

I stayed about half hour from wenceslas square, which was a bit annoying. They have a good tube system, but I would defo stay closer if going again. Like the others said, some nice places in and around the square, but it's down the back streets and across the bridge you'll find some gems...

there is a hotel with a restaurant on the roof in the square, which was pretty amazing.

Oh, and wrap up warm. I wore every item of my suitcase when I went and was still cold! It was February, mind...

I'm guessing its for a romantic weekend?

Why not try somewhere less commercial? It seems to me everyone's been to prague.

Well I booked it in the end. Lastminute.com are doing this 2 for 1 offer on hotels where they just give you a description but don't tell you the name of the hotel until you book. I was slightly sceptical at first, but bit the bullett and it actually turns out the hotel has rave reviews on tripadviser.com. It's right in the middle of the old town as well.

And juddie, supposedly May is the best time of the year to go weather wise.

Sam, those top secret hotels are really good as they guarantee you the star rating dont they?

Should have a great time!

Not really a romantic weekend, just a trip away from the missus' birthday. Sshh! It's a surprise.

I don't think it's too commercialised, it's not exactly Benidorm. There's still plenty of history and culture to see.

Yep, you get a description and star rating (this one was 4*), just no name.

I'm sure there is, like any capital city. It'll be a great trip away.

Just stay away from those pesky stag do's....ahem.

Sam, Go across the bridge and you will have a great time and its a hell of a lot cheaper. Kampa(sp) island is a great place to eat and drink and it wont cost a packet. Lovely city if you can avoid the fuckwit stag nights. We stayed at the Raddison just off wenceslas square for Christmas a couple of years ago and it was fantastic, make sure you visit the castle and the jewish area.

Was there last week, the temperature was 22-23 degrees.

Tell the wife to leave her stilettos at home, nearly all the streets in the old town are cobbled and quite hard on the legs.

As everyone else has said, stay off the town square for meals and drinks, you should be paying around 30 crowns or less for a beer. They charge more if you sit outside so find a restaurant with doors that open out onto the street and sit at the table that is sort of half in, half out.

Hope you have a good time.

I'd recommend having a snifter at Budapest.  Prague is ace but Budapest is perfect for a chilled short break.
