Quote
LILIAN Nalis will bring the curtain down on a 16-year playing career this weekend as Town travel to Peterborough.

The 37-year-old midfielder. left, arrived at the County Ground last July and has made 26 appearances during the course of the current campaign.

But Nalis has only started three games since the turn of the year and has made the decision to hang his boots up once the season is over and return to his native France.

The veteran began his career in his homeland with a host of clubs, before making the switch to Chievo in Italy’s Serie A.

Nalis came to England in 2003 to play for then Premier League outfit Leicester City. He also spent time at Sheffield United, Coventry and Plymouth Argyle before being signed by Maurice Malpas last summer.

Town chief executive Nick Watkins revealed there has been much more to Nalis’ role at the club than just his appearances on the pitch.

“As an individual and a club player he has been absolutely outstanding,” admitted Watkins.

“He’s a wonderful all-round guy and will end up in some sort of ambassadorial role somewhere.

“I think he has probably been surprised at the pace of the games and the physical demands (of League One football). I think he’s enjoyed his time under Danny Wilson and the way Danny wants to play - it’s his type of football. But unfortunately age has caught up with him.”

and about time too!

You can't blame him for taking the contract and giving it a go in the lower leagues. IMHO he'd have been quality two or three seasons ago but the legs just don't want to do it any more.

He was painfully slow but obviously a decent player and he did a lot of work in the community. A bit of an ambassador for the club really, a lot of it went unnoticed. Shame we couldn't have got him a few years back.

Good luck in whatever you do next Nalis. I never understand why are fans seem to show him so much hate.

Ditto, but I've no hard feelings, I don't doubt he tried and I wish him well, I shall applaud him on Saturday.

Agreed. Shame he couldn't have replicated the form he had for Leicester or Plymouth, but not his fault.
Good luck Lillian.

My biggest disappointment with Nalis is that he didn't score a belter.

You know the one I'm talking about.
