Rivals have it all to do, says Smith

PHIL Smith believes Town are within touching distance of securing their League One status for another season - insisting their relegation rivals will be hard pressed to record back-to-back wins.

Wrong wrong wrong. Players talking rubbish again.

There are two teams in the bottom 4, and if either win both games then we'll be the ones going down.

Some of these players seem to think they are Alex Ferguson, and people in the game actually give a shit what they think.

The pressure is on OUR players. If we go down it will be only the third time in our 90 year league history we have been relegated to the bottom tier. For me that would put this team in the bottom 5% in terms of quality of all the teams weve had in 90 years.

Dont even think about the other results. Just win on saturday!

Exactly, in my opinion players should be fined for this. Every game should be a must win no matter what situation your in.

That isn't true though is it? It's not even half the story.

Carlisle and Crewe can get to 52 points which would mean that either one of them could, through picking up maximum points, go above us IF (and only if) we fail to get 3 points from our last two games.

But that would send us down ONLY IF BOTH Brighton and Northampton managed to pick up at least 3 points each from their remaining games.

AND if we picked up a point or two then Yeovil and Hartlepool would BOTH have to do at least as well as us in their last couple of games as well because our goal difference is better than both of them.

There are WAY too many variables in this for it to be that clear cut and any one that says "if this one thing happens we're down" is as wrong as someone that says "relax we're safe".

I can appreciate how you feel because the attitude in the dressing room should be "keep it in our own hands, win Saturday and we're safe". But you're bending the stick too far back the other way.

We ARE in a stronger position than Crewe and Carlisle because we've got 3 more points and a way better goal difference, but 3 points on Saturday will let us all unclench a bit.
