I think Fitton knows he's got a live one and will be prepared to push the boat out on wages if he can get Coxy to agree a contract extension in the summer. From everything Cox has said he's a patient lad and might well be prepared to do that, give it until January and see how the side is shaping up under Wilson.

He seems a smart lad and he'll know that his chances of getting a good move will be better after two seasons of consistent scoring than one, and better again if he's scoring goals in a Championship side than a League 1 side. If he's confident about the direction the team's going in, and the money's right, he might be prepared to hang about for another year or so.

I believe that Newcastle are watching Simon Cox - Calderwood was there scouting him last night.

Calderwood was there last night, but then it was two of his former clubs playing. Who knows really.

Swap plus cash for Nile Ranger? (TCP must be getting damp.)

They're going to have to sign some new players for the championship otherwise they'll be in serious shit. Well, they'll be in serious shit regardless if they go down. They'll have to transfer list most of their players for pennies just to soften the blow of going down.

Cox for Owen seems a reasonable swap...

I reckon how Cox values our chances next season will be important. If he thinks we'll be in the playoffs and challenging for automatic promotion there is a chance he'll sign an extension and hang around, especially if we offer him a large enough wad of cash.

Wilson will need to work quickly and hard over the summer sorting the squad out to come up with something that will have a chance of being at the top. Though I reckon out first team are pretty close at the moment.

Agreed, but so much needs to be taken into account. Our players are playing the best they've played all season, is this because they want a job next year and want to stay up. Also if people think we can get play-offs next season with teh squad we have now we will have to buy the players we have on loan - Greer and OTJ are possibilities with Greer out of contract & OTJ out of favour (and hasnt had too many good games according to some TEFers), and Kanu - he has just signed a 2 year deal at Reading, i don't think we stand much chance of buying him unless STFC and Kanu really want it to happen. Even if we do keep cox, the rest of the team will be out of place if we lose the loanees.

The magnitude of Cox's achievement can be gauged by the fact Harry Morris only ever scored 3 away hat tricks in his career at STFC....he did bag a good few at the CG, mind.

Even scoring one away hat trick is quite rare...plenty have scored them at the CG.

Dennis (Bullets) Brown managed 2, but not in the same season....others who've scored 1 include, Duncan Shearer, Peter Thorne, Kevin Horlock, Dave Mitchell, and Steve White, all of which I was at the game to see.

One of Brown's was a 4, at Bormuff one of my earliest away games, a feat I saw Shearer repeat at Plymuff

Before that famously Alan Mayes on debut..

Notable goalscorers who never managed 1 include, Don Rogers, Sam Parkin, Peter Noble (did once do it in the LC) Jimmy Quinn, Andy Rowland, Arthur Horsfield, Ernie Hunt, David Moss, Paul Rideout and Jan Aage Fjortoft.

Bronco Layne and Jimmy Kelly both scored on late 50's early 60's.

Of those listed Horlock's at Bristol Rovers, is worthy of mention as the only example scored by a midfield player.

I may well have missed something out...I'll leave it to the TEF nerds to do a detailed check.

A valid point, but I think to be absolutely perfect, there should be no other goals in between...Horlock's was interrupted by one from OST.

The other night Cox scored one with his head, one with his right, and one with his gut; is that an imperfect hat-trick?

All Cox needs to do now is get a 4 or more. In my time I've seen it done 5 times, Brown and Shearer as previously mentioned, and at the CG, 5 by Keith East v Mansfield, 4 by Don Rogers v Southport and 4 by Andy Rowland v Rotherham

One player, not the whole team.
