You know the 'no surrender' song, the one about the IRA, and staying english? Why is it so bad. Its no different to singing no-surrender to al queida is it? I was perusing the thought earlier and can honestly think of no reason why people get so het up about it. Unless they dont get het up about it and i'm barking so far up the wrong tree i'm out of the forest completely. Can someone set me straight please?

Well there is one no surrender song, which Sunderland used to sing, that contains the lyrics "fuck the Pope and the IRA" so I can kinda see why that'd cause offence.

Are you talking about the "no surrender, no surrender, no surrender to the IRA" one?  Other than the fact it's about 10 years out of date and is bringing up events of the past that we'd all be best to leave there, I can't really see much wrong with it, oh other than it is a crap song.

I don't even think Rangers sing that at Celtic Park any more. They are more content with Derry's Walls or The Famine Song which I believe are more offensive.

A pointless song really, as Jan says, and to be honest I never got what it had to do with a football match involving Swindon and Port Vale lets say.  I think it just irritates people I think, on that basis alone.  Why would anyone start singing the current number 1 single for example, it would get some very strange looks, unless it was Gay icons Pet Shop Boys' latest ditty which seem to fin their tunes transferring well to the terraces.
