This is turning into a farce... exactly sums up Ken Bates really. What a cunt.

From various papers this morning:

Quote
Leeds chairman Ken Bates may sue West Ham over the Carlos Tevez affair, claiming a loss of earnings on three players from Elland Road that were sold to the Blades. Matthew Kilgallon, Rob Hulse and Ian Bennett had clauses in their contracts entitling Leeds to a windfall had the players stayed in the Premier League.

West Ham have set themselves up for this though.  Played with fire and are now getting burned.  Their desire to sell-up, with the Iceland gang in financial problems (having creditors trying to take them to court back in Iceland) means they need to tidy up any potential liabilities - so everyone will now wade in knowing they will settle to get the sale of the club progressed.

The Premier league made this mess by fudging West Ham's punishment in the first place.

Where is the demarcation of who can sue and who can't? Can the Sheffield pie maker take action because he sold less pies when they were in the Championship than in the Prem?

Probably, it's the same logic as Warnock, Bates and the Sheffield United players are using, I can see this getting messy.

Isn't the players / managers claim directly related to them being relegated though? In that their contracts said, in the Premiership you'll get £xxK and in the Championship £xK and they want the money they lost as a result. Sounds the same with regards the Leeds players.

I think the mistake West Ham have made is by not making sure that the single agreement with Sheff Utd was the end of it and would cover everything, with anyone else claiming their money from Sheff Utd. As they've paid up to Sheff Utd I can see it being very difficult for them to argue against the other claims.

The real guilty party is the Premier League though for not taking the correct action at the time.

I listened to Talk Sport on the way to the match last night and fans on all sides were making valid points.

It, however all boils down to one thing Tevez wasnt properly registered (i know about the admin blah blah).

As always its one rule for Premier League and one rule for everyone else.

We have seen teams get kicked out the FA Cup and docked points in the League and Blue Square.

As for West Ham fans working out how many points they got with Tevez playing...thats a joke, i am sure that when we got bombed down the league two divisions we could of come up with weird and wonderful excuses.

The Premier League should take the shame fairly on the chin and should of acted at the time.

I'm still confused as to exactly what they did wrong at the end of the day, but if Tevez wasn't registered correctly then aren't the rules pretty clear - all games he played in are void and go down as 3-0 losses or something?

I thought you'd be blaming Phil Smith ?

Are fans gonna sue because it would have cost them less money to get a train to West Ham than it did to Sheffield?

Just shows what footballs turning into.

Obviously. But it is the PL's fault though - they opened the door to this by bottling the initial decision as jonny said. And this whole thing could open a real can of worms - who's going to be the first club to sue because they got relegated by a dodgy refereeing decision?
