Seen this on that Southend site??

Quote
Swindon is so boring that even the local wildlife has started to top itself. It's clear to me that our players were affected by this, hence the poor result.

I heard that the players coach driver was seconds away from hanging himself in the coach, but was luckily rescued by the club doctor...

Bearing all this in mind, I'm just glad everyone made it out alive.
In fact, swindon is so dull, even posting about it has given me some kind of haemorrhage...

Would have worked better if Macca was crossing from the left and Marshall from the right using their stronger feet.

No it wouldn't.

To be fair it's probably higher up the seaside holiday list than Swindon.

My Dad's review of last night's game

Yes the second half of the first half was a joy to watch as we pinged the ball around.

Going through the team, Smith was competent without a lot to do, he did drop one cross which i'm sure other teams will concentrate on.

The back 4 are solid, Greer and Morrison work well together, Vincent is the best left back we have and Amankwaah is the revelation. His two assets over Smith is his height (i think Wilson likes height)and his engine which seems to be an asset with a lot of black players.

The midfield is still the main problem. Timlin was excellent and broke up many attacks to start our own. OTJ is a monster but mainly with his height. Put a light on his head and he could be a light house. To be honest he didn't do a lot apart from giving away free kicks. He is a beanpole and not that strong in the tackle. I guess he is still settling in.

We then have Mac and Kanu on the wings. Mac creates but doesn't score, Kanu scores but doesn't create, between them there is one very good player.

Up front Cox and Paynter run themselves into the ground, although it looked as though Paynter took a knock as he struggled in the second half.

A worry is our strength in depth as we had Marshall (a poor mans Mac) Smith, a good cover at full back, Nalis all hair not much else, Sturrock, a good runner of channels but not much else, Brez, who usually drops the soap in the shower, and Ifil competent cover at the back.

I guess we could give Macklin who scored 2 more goals for the reserves this week a run out but we have a load of injuries.

My worry would still be midfield, Southend allowed us to play in the first half but not the second, and we didn't create anything in the second half.

Or, our attacking play in the first half pushed Southend back and in the second we defended a 2-0 lead comfortably.

Much more positive.

My old man is never overly positive, that's quite a positive review for him!!

Though Ifil wasn't in the squad last night.

Interesting view from a southend fan:

The best thing about last night was the Roast Pork (with apple stuffing) bun's. They were an absolute treat. And apart from the opening spell, we were dreadful. It was like watching 11 strangers play football with each other. The first goal came from OUR own attack and the truly brilliant McNamee sucked THREE players out to him and he put a lovely ball into RHK who, as ever, glided the ball home beautifully into Mildy's bottom right hand corner. What we could do with him back at the club and he rightfully got a standing ovation from the Southend fans as he left the pitch.

The second goal should have never stood. We (once again) are attacking and the ball gets played into Grant who was literally wrestled to the ground by Cox who ran up the other end of the pitch, gave it to BP and Clarke gets the right side of him by Sankofa STUPIDLY comes in from behind/at the side and gives away a needless penalty. I would have subbed him then for such stupidness. After that, we created **** all for nigh on an hour and it was only when Scanell came on we looked half dangerous. They were quite happy keeping the ball and whenever we got it, we gave it away time and time and time again. I'd love to know how many times we passed the ball to them or our lack of control gifted them the ball. It was embarrassing. They better be in training today and i hope Tilly/Brush are reading them the riot act. The third goal, well, a penalty!? You have got to be kidding. As a previous poster alludes to, he went down like a sack of ****, but to be honest, the 6 minute added time sign was the most annoying thing about that minute of play as we could have been there till 6am and not looked like scoring.

The subs?! Too late. How Grant stayed on!? Pass. How Barnard went off instead of Robinson?! Pass. NO-ONE played well and no-one can have a mark above 5 as it was that bad. Even Dervitte started needlessly hoofing the ball all over the place when he had plenty of time on the ball. Swindon were a good outfit, with HRK, McNamee, Tudor Jones, Cox, Morrison and Amankwaah. Them 6 alone, would get into a Southend first eleven. But the most annoying thing was that we gifted them the goals on a nice silver platter. They didn't even have to work for them.

I can tell him why Barnard went off, because he was shite and must have touched the ball about twice.

He did throw out a good number of elbows and little kicks though.
