Really? I thought he was involved a lot tonight and worked hard at getting back into defensive positions. Moreso that Robson Kanu in fact.
Oh well.
Fair enough Batch, I might be harsh, HRK had a good first half and disappeared after that. McNamee responded to the bench in getting into positions but didn't form much of a deterrent, much of the second half it was happening right in front of me and I was looking to be a bit picky. (fb, I'd just like to stress this is only my opinion)

I said his distribution was shit, in fact non existent. Sure he can punt the ball up field but anyone can do that. I didn't see him roll, throw or pass the ball out at all in the second half, not once.
Other than that he admittedly he didn't do too much wrong, but then he had pretty much fuck all to do all night.
What's the point in deliberately trying to criticise him when he had a good game? There was no point in him urgently spraying the ball everywhere in the second half as it was pretty clear we were trying to slow the game down so Southend couldn't get back into it. But whatever, you were quite clearly a bandwagon jumper back at the start of the season and are now to stubborn to admit that Smith isn't actually that bad a 'keeper.

Aha, he was our side first half. Clearly a McNamee of two halves.

If I have to be picky, why was Marshall on the left wing when he came on when Macca was on the right? Is Wilson deliberately looking for his wingers to cut inside or what?

i'd like to add that even when southend had the ball and were trying to apply some pressure we didn't end up on top of our penalty box. we kept shape!
it's was lovely to see

at a guess- yes. they seemed to have a centreback at left back so i can understand that a bit-he'd hopefully be easier to get past being less mobile

Only fuck up in the game. Would have been far more affective had they been in their rightful postions. Wilson does seem to be clueless with his substitutions.

Forgot to say, saw a slightly miffed looking Jeril walking down County Road about 6:45. I assume he was plain dropped not injured?
From captain to zero in sixty seconds. Bit harsh on him, but I can see why we'd go with a more attacking player in his place on the bench.

I guess Marshall and McNamee didn't swap because McNamee already had their lump of a No 6. (also their only goal threat) pretty much beaten every time and so it made sense to let the fresher midget have a go at their fresh left-back.
I didn't always agree with it but I guess that was the idea.

That is what I should have written. Marshall isn't much of a footballer (yet), he can't see or make simple passes, he's often on his heels and he's really just a push and run merchant. But he's highly effective when the opposition are tired and his crosses are pretty decent too.

Apart from the positive things noted by others, it was a joy to see us keeping possession so often, and my MOM, Greer , was such an influence with good distribution from the back. We have usually had to put up with hoofers, like Ifil, O'Hanlon, Haywood, Reeves, but it seems that (hopefully) Morrison also likes to place his passes somewhere near a red shirt.

Back to Smithy.....IMO it was a foul on him which resulted in the fumble. Think he would have had it safe otherwise and I was waiting for the ref to blow for a free kick. Fair play to him reacting fast to claim it back. Yes he didnt have much to do but how he can be criticised is beyond me. One player you never see slagging off the fans, never moaning, just getting his head down and doing the job and taking his chance when hes been given it. A model professional IMO.
